As a diplomatic body, the U.S. Vietnam Trade Office (VINATRADEUSA) is not allowed to be a registered agent for Vietnamese banks and seafood exporters in the U.S., it announced recently. The office made the announcement after some Vietnamese banks and enterprises notified American banks and the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) that they had appointed VINATRADEUSA as their registered agent, according to the Ministry of Trade's American Market Department. Vietnam's central bank officially granted credit card giant Visa International a license to set up a representative office in the country Feb. 16.
