The Vietnamese government issued a resolution on solutions to accelerate tourism recovery and develop tourism sustainably and effectively on Thursday, moving toward turning Vietnam into one of the world’s 30 leading countries with the highest tourism competitiveness. As per the resolution, the government tasks the Ministry of Public Security with completing the immigration policy and creating more favorable conditions for foreign visitors to enter, stay in, and leave the country. Besides, the ministry is also in charge of expanding the list of nations eligible for e-visa application. The government will also propose the lawmaking National Assembly extend the e-visa validity to 90 days from 30 days to lure international tourists, especially those who want to stay long in Vietnam. Family on Vietnam’s Phu Quoc earns big by farming crabs in plastic boxes
Nguyen Buu Loc, residing in Phu Quoc City of Kien Giang Province, southern Vietnam, and his wife started raising crabs in plastic boxes due to exhausted seafood resources at sea and have generated high returns. Loc said the Rach Tram River in the namesake hamlet of Bai Thom Commune, Phu Quoc City is some seven kilometers long. Along the banks of the river, there are a lot of melaleuca and mangrove trees, among others. Crabs in the river have black bodies, red pincers, and tough meat. They also grow fast and hold high economic values. Loc used nets to fence around mangroves on the bank of the river, erected more wooden poles to fix the nets, and dropped plastic boxes of crabs into the river. The crabs’ food is small fish. Vietnam’s dried, canned fish exports buck seafood downtrend
Vietnam’s dried and canned fish exports experienced an increase in revenue, despite the downturn in the overall seafood products in January-May, according to the most recent data released by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development. The ministry’s figures showed that seafood exports amounted to US$3.47 billion during the five-month period, indicating a decline of 25.9 percent over the same period last year. Falling imports from major markets such as the U.S., EU, China, and South Korea contributed to the overall drop. The most substantial decline was observed in the U.S. market, with a reduction of over 50 percent. Amidst the overall slump in seafood exports, dried fish and canned fish emerged as a positive aspect, exhibiting higher export turnover in comparison to the corresponding period in 2022. Of the measures, the implementation of the Law on Fisheries is a key part of the inspection relating to fishing activities. Relevant parties, particularly the border guards, the coast guards, and the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development have been jointly raising the awareness of law compliance for fishermen. In the Southern region, the Coast Guard Region 4 Command has conducted many communications activities to raise awareness on IUU fishing. Seafood sector feeling the bite amid high inflation
Statistics from the five major listed seafood firms, Vinh Hoan Corporation (VHC), Nam Viet JSC (ANV), International Development and Investment JSC (IDI), Minh Phu Seafood Corporation (MPC), and Sao Ta Foods JSC (FMC), show that in the first quarter of this year these firms saw 23.4 per cent drop in revenue, and an 80.4 per cent plunge in profit, on average compared to Q1/2022. MPC, Vietnam’s largest shrimp producer, saw its revenue drop by almost half last quarter to $92.28 million, and after-tax losses of $4.27 million, compared to a $3.96 million profit for the same period last year. This is the first quarter that MPC has reported a loss since the company went public in 2017. Indonesia, Iran to sign preferential trade agreement

The ministry's director general of international trade negotiations, Djatmiko Bris Witjaksono said that it will be the second agreement between Indonesia and the Middle East region as the first was signed with UAE on July 1, 2022. According to Djatmiko, the PTA signing will be carried out within the framework of Iranian President Seyyed Ebrahim Raisi's visit to Indonesia from May 23 - 24.
