The Vietnam News Agency needed to continue with renewal and remain a trustworthy, strategic information centre for the State and Government, permanent member of the Party Central Committees Secretariat and Politburo member Truong Tan Sang said yesterday. The agency had served as the channel for Party information and provided fast and accurate reports about its policies, he said. The Politburo member, who spoke with VNA executives at the agencys headquarters in Ha Noi Street, praised its implementation of Central Committee Resolution No 5 dealing with ideology, theory and journalism in the new period. Vietnam, China pledge to maintain peace in East Sea
Officials of Vietnam and China have agreed to peacefully solve the two countries' disputes through negotiation to maintain peace in the East Sea, according to a joint statement. The statement, published on Vietnam News Agency website Sunday, said Vietnamese Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Ho Xuan Son met with Chinese State Councillor Dai Bingguo in Beijing on June 25 to convey the Vietnamese leaders' opinions about bilateral relations and the East Sea situation. 25 pct of Vietnam’s elderly find health services unaffordable
A national survey has found that more than 50 percent of Vietnamese senior citizens are in poor health and nearly half of those who are ailing said they can't afford health services. VNAS was conducted among people over 50 years old between October and December last year, the website said. They came from 12 provinces and cities representing Vietnam's six different ecological areas, including Ho Chi Minh City, Hanoi, the Central Highlands province of Dak Lak, the northern province of Hung Yen, and the Mekong Delta province of Soc Trang. According to the survey, around 14 percent of elderly people are living in poor households. Fifty nine percent are still working, mainly in the agricultural sector, a report on Vietnam News Agency (VNA) quoted the survey conclusions as saying, adding that the main reasons elderly people cited for not working were poor health, retirement and commitments to their families.
