The Lim Festival in the northern Vietnamese province of Bac Ninh, home to UNESCO-recognized ‘quan ho’ (love duet) singing, welcomed dozens of thousands of visitors during its two-day course on Thursday and Friday. The event is held annually in Bac Ninh’s Tien Du District, about 30km from downtown Hanoi, as a cultural spotlight of the province and one of the largest spring festivals in northern Vietnam on the 13th day of the first Lunar month (February 3 this year). Ninh Binh Province in northern Vietnam ranked seventh on a list of the 10 most welcoming destinations in the world published recently by Dutch-based online travel agency Booking.com. The ranking was based on an analysis of more than 240 million verified customer reviews on the website. Around 90 kilometers south of Hanoi, Ninh Binh Province is famous for a high density of natural and cultural attractions, including Cuc Phuong National Park, Van Long wetland nature reserve, grotto caves and rivers in Trang An, Tam Coc-Bich Dong and Mua Caves, historic monuments in the Hoa Lu ancient capital, Bai Dinh Temple -- Vietnam’s largest buddhist worshiping complex -- and the Phat Diem Cathedral. Vietnam’s Giang brothers set new world record in Italy
More than a year after breaking their own world record in Spain, the Giang brothers – a Vietnamese acrobat duo – set a new record of head-to-head balancing walk in Milan, Italy on Friday. Circus artists Giang Quoc Nghiep, 38, and Giang Quoc Co, 34, successfully walked up 10 stairs to a height of two meters, then passed through a crossbar that is 0.4 meter wide and 10 meters long, and then walked down 10 stairs in their performance in Milan on Friday afternoon (local time). After receiving the invitation to perform at the Guinness World Record Show in Milan from the event’s organizer, Banijay S.p.A Company, the acrobatic duo had three weeks for their preparation. Foreign tourists find Vietnam ‘very safe’
"I felt safe in all Vietnamese cities I visited," Karena Edgecombe from New Zealand told VnExpress International. Edgecombe said that it was "extremely safe to walk alone" in major cities like Hanoi, where gun violence and street assaults are uncommon. She said she had walked around Hanoi by herself at 5 a.m. when she couldn't sleep, and she had to walk through many small alleyways at 10 p.m. to get to a pharmacy in Hoi An. "In Vietnam I feel safer than in my hometown in Auckland," she said. Cass Raison, a tourist from the U.K. who left Vietnam on Wednesday after staying here a month, also rated Vietnam's safety highly. Biggest spring blood donation event to kick off on February 6
According to the organizer – the National Institute of Hematology and Blood Transfusion (NIHBT), at the one-week event, donors can visit one of the seven venues in Hanoi - including the institute, agricultural general hospital, and the People’s Committee headquarters of Trau Quy town. A total of 100,615 blood units were collected after the past 15 editions of the campaign. The NIHBT said between December 2022 and January this year – the time around the lunar New Year Festival – the biggest and longest traditional event in Vietnam, it received 57,000 units, sustaining a reserve of 12,000 units for the holiday period, much higher than the levels posted in previous years. The event was attended by leaders of the Political Department of Military Region 3, the Military Youth Advisory Board, the provincial Military Command, the provincial Party Committee, the People’s Council, the People’s Committee, agencies, organizations, enlisted youths, and their relatives and friends. During the event, participants offered incense in commemoration of the fallen; visited historical relic sites; had exchange with war veterans, historical witnesses, and demobilized troops in 2023; participated in artistic, cultural, and sports exchanges.
