The Hai Luu Buffalo Fighting Festival held in the northern province of Vinh Phuc’s Hai Luu Commune has been reopened after a long suspension due to the Covid-19 pandemic. The festival in Song Lo District will be held on February 5-7 at the community’s stadium with the participation of 20 buffaloes compared to the previous 32 in proceeding years. Firm in central Vietnam exports 2mn breeding shrimps to Taiwan
Duong Hung Mien Trung JSC based in Thang Binh District, Quang Nam Province, central Vietnam has shipped two million white-leg breeding shrimp to Taiwan. The parents of these shrimp were imported from Hawaii with a fast growth pace and strong disease resistance. The export affirms the quality of breeding shrimp of Vietnam and a stride in the development of the local shrimp breeding sector and the integration into the international market. Under a contract with its partner, the company will export some 20 million breeding shrimp to Taiwan in 2023. This is good news for Quang Nam Province’s fishing and agriculture as a whole. Duong Hung Mien Trung owns a 4.5-hectare shrimp breeding farm and auxiliary facilities covering four hectares. The shrimp breeding facility annually produces five billion post-larvae shrimp units. Vietnam’s finance ministry suggests increasing maximum environment tax levels on fuels
The Vietnamese Ministry of Finance has proposed increasing the maximum levels of the environmental protection tax on gasoline, diesel oil, and lubricants in the tax frame and keeping the tax band on kerosene unchanged. The proposal was included in a draft program to develop laws and ordinances in 2024 over which the Ministry of Justice is consulting relevant ministries and agencies. In other words, the Ministry of Finance has proposed amending the Environmental Protection Tax Law. In particular, the minimum environmental protection tax rates on fuels should be kept unchanged, while the maximum rates should be revised up to facilitate policy adjustments when needed. The tax band on kerosene was proposed to be maintained as the product is an essential commodity for the poor and ethnic minority groups in remote areas. FDI to Vietnam’s real estate rises by over 70% in 2022
Vietnam's real estate market continues to show strong appeal to foreign investors despite global economic difficulties. The foreign direct investment (FDI) into Vietnam’s real estate market in 2022 rose by over 70% yearly to US$4.45 billion, focusing on industrial and large-scale commercial projects, according to the Ministry of Construction (MoC). US veteran searches for owner of lost Vietnam War diary
"Found a north Vietnamese diary, 93 pages, November 1967 during the battle of DakTo on hill 724 while with the 1st Cav. Would like to find relatives and return it," Mathews, a 77-year-old U.S. veteran from New Jersey, wrote on his Facebook page late last month. In an interview with North Jersey , Mathews said he’s had the notebook for 56 years. All he thinks he knows about the notebook is that what’s inside was probably written by a soldier named Cao Xuan Tat from Ky Anh in Ha Tinh Province. Mathews said that finding the family of the soldier and returning the diary could help lend closure to a turbulent chapter of his life. "My dream is if we can find him, to take a trip out there and present it... I plan to put closure to it. At my age, now I feel it's time," he said. Last year, Vietnam’s export revenue of agro-fishery-forestry products set a record high of 53.22 billion USD, up 9.3% year-on-year. However, Europe accounted for only 11.3% of its market share. This is a modest number, although the agricultural sector has optimized many advantages of the E.U. - Vietnam Free Trade Agreement (EVFTA). One of the main reasons is said to be the union’s high requirements on farm imports, while Vietnam’s agricultural production has yet to meet green growth requirements. According to the World Bank’s report, agriculture is the second highest emitter, accounting for 19% of the nation’s total gas emissions in 2020. About 48% of the sector’s emissions and more than 75% of methane emissions are from rice production.
