Vietnam reaffirms vigilance on East Sea situation
"Vietnamese authorities always closely follow situations on the East Sea and resolutely perform management measures and legal conducts in accordance with international law, especially the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea and Vietnamese law," said deputy spokeswoman of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Pham Thu Hang, according to the ministry’s official website. Vietnam calls the South China Sea the East Sea. Hang’s comment came after reporters last week requested an official reaction to the news of the Chinese ship Haiyang Dizhi 4 Hao operating within Vietnam’s EEZ. The survey vessel was built in 1980 and has a capacity of around 1,000 tons, according to vessel tracking website Marine Traffic. Vietnam welcomes over 2.69mn int’l visitors in Q1
More than 2.69 million international tourists arrived in Vietnam in the first quarter of this year, soaring 30-fold against the same period last year, according to data released on Wednesday by the General Statistics Office of Vietnam. The country earned an estimated VND161 trillion (US$6.8 billion) in revenue gained from lodging and dining services. Some provinces and cities in particular witnessed an upsurge in revenue, such as Da Nang (73 percent), Quang Ninh (43 percent), Can Tho (42 percent), and Ho Chi Minh City (37 percent). The country took in around VND6.8 trillion ($288 million) from travel services, up two-fold compared to the year-ago figure, buoyed by lots of cultural and tourism activities taking place in the first months of the year, the Vietnam News Agency reported. Lao Cai and Yunnan provinces agree to strengthen bilateral ties

Vietnam’s foreign investment plunges 39% in Q1

(Photo: VNA) Hanoi (VNS/VNA) - Vietnam attracted nearly 5.45 billion USD worth of foreign investment in the first quarter of the year, down 39% year-on-year, according to the Foreign Investment Agency (FIA) under the Ministry of Planning and Investment . Of the three-month figure, over 3 billion USD came from 522 newly-licensed projects, up 62% in a number of projects but down 6% in the amount of capital compared to the same period last year. Some 1.2 billion USD was added to 228 existing ones, representing a yearly hike of 3% in a number of projects and a yearly decline of 70.3% in the capital. However, foreign investors' capital contribution and share purchases rose 4% year-on-year to 798 million USD, the FIA said. Ho Chi Minh City hotels waiting for int’l guests
Although Vietnam reopened its door to international tourists over a year ago, small and medium lodging facilities in Ho Chi Minh City are still struggling to recover due to the small number of international visitors. Their largest source market is China while the number of guests from the northern neighbor remains modest, forcing many hotels to use their facilities for other purposes or stop leasing spaces. Shutdown, falling room occupancy In District 1, many hotels which used to be crowded with foreign travelers are now empty or have been replaced by other businesses. On Ly Tu Trong Street, a spacious hotel is being repurposed. Trung Nguyen Legend opens first office in South Korea
The new office, which opened on Tuesday, is located in Gangnam, a popular entertainment and shopping center in Seoul. Trung Nguyen Legend said in a statement that the average South Korean consumes 367 cups of coffee a year and that South Korea is known for leading the world in new coffee trends. Trung Nguyen Legend products have been present in South Korea for 10 years and in 2019 the company established a local sales team, seeking to increase revenues and brand promotion.
