Though China added Vietnam to its list of approved countries for group tours on March 15, flights carrying groups of Chinese tourists to Khanh Hoa Province in the south-central region will not resume until March 26, according to Cam Ranh International Terminal Joint Stock Company. Accordingly, low-cost air carrier Vietjet Air will run about 34 round-trip flights between China and Khanh Hoa from March 26 to March 31. While China Southern Airlines has plans to reopen an air route connecting China with Cam Ranh International Airport in Khanh Hoa on March 26 with one daily flight, the frequency will float between 25 and 30 daily international flights from mid-April 2023 onward. These moves are expected to boost Vietnam’s inbound tourism one year after the country fully reopened its doors to international tourists on March 15 last year. Speaking at the event, Dang Minh Truong, chairman of Sun Group, said that Vietnam is in dire need of breakthrough solutions to prevent the tourist industry from lagging behind. Relevant ministries and departments should weigh up amending and supplementing regulations of the Law on Foreigners’ Entry in, Exit from, Transit through, and Residence in Vietnam, and report them to the prime minister as soon as possible. Attracting more visitors to Vietnam
Martin Koerner - Head, Tourism Working Group Vietnam Business Forum To recover from this crisis and boost its tourism potential, Vietnam needs to implement some policy changes and improve its service quality. There are three key recommendations. First is to improve the visa policy. One of the barriers for foreign tourists to visiting Vietnam is its complicated and restrictive visa policy. Currently, only 24 countries are eligible for visa exemption for up to 15 days, while others have to apply for an e-visa or a visa on arrival. The visa exemption period is too short for many visitors who want to explore the country’s diverse attractions, while the e-visa and visa on arrival processes can be time-consuming and inconvenient. To make it easier and more attractive for visitors, Vietnam should extend the visa exemption period to 30 days, increase the list of visa exempt countries to all of Europe, Australia, New Zealand, the US, and Canada, increase the number of countries for … [Read more...] about Attracting more visitors to Vietnam

Tourism breakthrough within reach
Stakeholders have much to say about the current state of the tourism industry, and what must be done Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh chaired a tourism recovery conference on March 15 and talked to management agencies and tourism businesses about removing obstacles for the industry to thrive once again. Despite being one of the first Southeast Asian countries to fully reopen to international tourism after the pandemic, Vietnam’s tourism industry still trails other countries in the region. The PM raised a series of questions about tourism promotion, competitive advantages, products, and visa policies – all factors that are considered to be subjective causes for Vietnam’s tourism to fail its foreign tourism targets thus far. “Tourism cannot develop alone, and tourism cannot develop if culture and the entertainment industry do not develop,” PM Chinh said. He directed the tourism industry to build green and sustainable tourism products, finance tourism activities, and develop … [Read more...] about Tourism breakthrough within reach
