Red Spring Festival expects to collect over 4,000 blood units Young people donate their blood In his opening remarks, Director of the National Institute of Hematology and Blood Transfusion (NIHBT) Bach Quoc Khanh, who is head of the festival’s organizing board, said that the festival has been held annually since 2008 to address blood shortages after the lunar New Year holiday, and gradually changed public awareness of blood donation. After 13 editions, the festival has collected over 85,000 blood units and become the annual biggest blood donation event. Khanh took the occasion to express his gratitude for donators nationwide. The 14th edition is taking place from March 1-7 at the NIHBT headquarters, and three fixed places - 26 Luong Ngoc Quyen in Hoan Kiem district, 132 Quan Nhan in Thanh Xuan district, and Valley 122 of Lang Street in Dong Da district. The organizing board expects to receive over 4,000 blood units during this year’s festival, which then will be allocated to nearly 180 hospitals and medical establishments of 28 provinces and cities in the northern region. It has also made thorough preparations to welcome donors so as to ensure COVID-19 prevention and control as recommended by the World Health Organisation and the Health Ministry./. Fatal coach crash kills three, injures 4 in Dong Thap A serious traffic accident caused by a passenger coach took place on National Highway 54 in Tan Thanh Commune of Dong Thap Province’s Lai Vung District this morning, March 1, killing three and injuring four people. The passenger coach with plate number 51B-17273 driven by Tran Van Nam, aged 41, was heading from Vam Cong Bridge to Vinh Long Province when it plowed into a group of 10 bike riders and killed a rider, identified as Tran Van An, aged 59. Nigerian man sentenced to death in Vietnam for drug trafficking

Ekwegbalu James Nzube, 45, was caught red handed by border guards at 08.00pm on July 20, 2020 while illegally crossing the border from Cambodia into Vietnam. Searching his rucksack, the border guards found James Nzube was carrying 4 plastic bags containing white solid crystal substance, weighing more than 3.9kg, which was then identified as methamphetamine. James Nzube admitted that he got acquainted with a man of Nigerian nationality named Jone in Guangdong (China) in 2014 when he traded in clothing in China. Johe transferred money and goods from China to Nigeria, and he often came to Nzube’s to carry out transactions. Jone asked James Nzube to transport drugs from Cambodia to Vietnam in exchange for money, and the proposal was accepted. On March 13, 2020 James Nzube entered Vietnam via Tan Son Nhat International Airport in Ho Chi Minh City, and then rented a room at Hoa Hong Hotel to stay. Jone later hired James Nzube to go to Cambodia and transport drugs to Vietnam for US$2,000. He was then caught red handed transporting drugs from Cambodia to Vietnam by Vietnamese border guards stationed at Moc Bai International Border Gate. …

Vietnamese man jailed for helping S.Korean illegally enter Cambodia

A Vietnamese man has been sentenced to one year in prison for organizing a South Korean man’s illegal entry into Cambodia from Long An Province, located in Vietnam’s Mekong Delta region. The People’s Court of Long An Province on Monday handed down the sentence on Nguyen Van Luy, a 33-year-old man dwelling in An Thanh Commune in Ben Cau District, situated in southern Tay Ninh Province. According to the indictment, Luy worked as a ‘xe om’ (motorbike taxi) driver at the Moc Bai border gate in Tay Ninh, where he got to know a South Korean man named Kim. On August 6, 2020, Kim texted Luy to ask the Vietnamese man to help his South Korean brother cross the border into Cambodia. After accepting the job for US$1,000, Luy asked an unknown person, who worked as a motorbike taxi driver in the area of Tho Mo Market in My Quy Tay Commune in Long An’s Duc Hue District, to transport the South Korean man to Cambodia for a wage of VND10 million ($434). On August 7, 2020, Luy booked a car to pick up the South Korean man at a hotel on Hau Giang Street in Tan Binh District, Ho Chi Minh City and take him to Tho Mo Market. From Tho Mo Market, Luy brought the South Korean man to the border area in Hamlet 1 in My Quy Tay Commune at 8:30 pm on the same day and was arrested by My Quy Tay Border Station’s patrol team.
