Vietnam, U.K. strive to lift trade and investment relations
He made the statement when delivering an opening remark at the Vietnam – U.K. Business Forum held by the Ministry of Industry and Trade and the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development in collaboration of the U.K. Department of International Trade (DIT) in London on May 25. Vietnam climbs 8 places in global tourism development index
Vietnam gained an overall score of 4.1 out of seven points, rising by 4.7 percent to leap from the 60 th place in 2019 to the 52 nd place out of 117 economies in the 2021 index, which was released recently by the World Economic Forum. The index measures the factors and policies that enable sustainable and resilient development of tourism from business, safety and health conditions, to infrastructure and natural resources, among others. The WEF report ascribed Vietnam’s improved ranking to its achievements in Covid-19 pandemic prevention, flexible adaptation as well as continuous efforts to develop safe tourism. Forum promotes application of int’l financial reporting standards in Vietnam
Jointly organized by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and the Accounting and Auditing Supervisory Department (AASD) under the Ministry of Finance, the event gathered over 600 delegates from agencies, units, listed businesses, auditing companies and universities. The second event of its kind is within the framework of the technical cooperation project between AASD and JICA on “strengthening the capacity of the AASD to promote the application of financial reporting standards in Vietnam” funded by the Japanese government. The forum is expected to help agencies of the Government, private sectors and training institutions in Vietnam understand the differences between Vietnamese accounting standards (VAS) and IFRS; as well as promote the exchange of views on the road-map for applying IFRS. The pandemic has pushed forward the trends of e-commerce in Vietnam 2-3 years earlier than forecast with the sector growing in size four times over last year, according to a 2021 Lazada report. “Some of the e-commerce trends we expected would happen in 2025, such as in edutech and fintech, have already happened in 2022,” noted Nguyen Huy Hoang, chief business officer at OnPoint E-commerce. “Hence, all e-commerce platform companies are investing hugely in Vietnam.” However, as shopping centres and small brick-and-mortar stores are now reopened, many investors are concerned that the boom in e-commerce was just a short-term fad and the majority of consumers could quickly shift back to offline shopping. Indonesia, Switzerland sign bilateral investment agreement

The scope of the P4M includes guarantees on several issues, including non-discriminatory treatment, freedom to transfer or repatriate and options to solve disputes through international arbitration. Enterprises expect strong growth in lychee exports

Now, the company is negotiating with customers and is expected to increase lychee exports by about 30 per cent compared to last year, said Ameii Vietnam general director Ngô Thị Thu Hồng.
