The latest modern techniques in scoliosis orthopaedic surgery have been applied for the first time in Vietnam by the Hanoi-based Bach Mai Hospital, with support from a world leading expert in spinal pathology. Professor Arun Ranganathan (C) and doctors from the Orthopaedic Trauma Department under the Hanoi-based Bach Mai Hospital examine a child patient with scoliosis. Accordingly, doctors from the Orthopaedic Trauma Department under the hospital have collaborated with Professor Arun Ranganathan from the Royal London Hospital (the UK) to apply the O-arm three-dimensional surgical imaging system and the Streamline sliding screw system to successfully perform scoliosis surgeries for three patients. According to the action plan, the domestic shrimp industry is expected to gain US$5.5 billion in export value and record an annual average growth of 10.79% in 2017-20, including US$4.5 billion from brackish water shrimp exports. The total area rearing brackish water shrimp is estimated to reach 710,000ha, with total output of 850,000 tonnes of shrimp during 2017-20, and expand to 750,000ha and 1.1 million tonnes of output in the period from 2020-25. Traffic police chiefs suspended over ‘protection money’ allegation in southern Vietnam
Two traffic police officials in the southern Vietnamese province of Dong Nai have been suspended from work while investigators look into allegations that the two received ‘protection money’ from truck operators in order to ignore their traffic violations. Lieutenant Colonel Pham Hai Cang, chief of the province’s traffic police unit No. 2, and Lieutenant Colonel Phan Cam Tu, deputy chief of traffic police unit No. 1, were handed a two-month suspension on Friday following a decision from Colonel Vu Hong Van, director of the Dong Nai police department. Investigators are currently working to verify whether or not Cang and Tu have been receiving monthly ‘protection money’ from local truck operators in order to ignore their traffic offenses along National Highway 20. Vietnam to gain US$4.8 billion from shrimp exports
These advantages from existing mechanism and policies include a programme on sustainable development of the fisheries economy during 2016-20. Under the programme, the shrimp industry will actively produce varieties of black tiger shrimp and white leg shrimp to meet the demand of market demand. Meanwhile, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development as well as other State management agencies have removed many obstacles in export procedures to create favourable conditions for export enterprises.
