Two-way trade jumped 250 percent to 6.6 billion USD in 2018 from 2.52 billion USD in 2010, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Dang Minh Khoi told a seminar on December 6. During that time, Africa became a favourite destination for Vietnamese companies that operate in telecommunications, agriculture and education such as the military-backed telecom group Viettel, he said. Speaking at the opening ceremony, Minister of Industry and Trade Tran Tuan Anh said Online Friday was in its sixth year and had seen strong development and response from Vietnamese consumers as well as the business community. The first national online shopping day in 2014 saw a modest transaction total of 180 billion VND (7.7 million USD), said the minister. However, the programme has developed with more than 3,000 participating businesses and 27,000 products introduced through online shopping programmes, as well as e-commerce experience weeks. A Vietnamese taxi driver accused an American woman of Vietnamese descendant of sexually harassing him on May 4 but oddly the latter had reported to local police that she was raped by another cabbie just a couple of days earlier. The accuser-turned-accused Pham Thi Thanh Ngoc, 40, is also the one who had lodged complaints to local police against a Vietnamese tabloid for what she called ostensible made-up stories last year that she raped many taxi drivers, one of whom was said to be forced to have sex with her over 30 times in two days. However, all of her accusations have been disproved by Vietnamese authorities eventually. Da Nang (VNA) – The first film festival of the Pacific Alliance was opened in the central city of Da Nang on December 7, co-held by the embassies of Chile, Colombia, Mexico and Peru in collaboration with the municipal Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism. Speaking at the opening ceremony, Chilean Ambassador Jaime Chomali said the film festival aims to popularise the cultures of the members of the alliance to Da Nang people, through which the mutual understanding and closeness between those countries and Vietnam can be solidified.
