Vietnam’s Dien Bien to close airport for 8-month expansion project
Vietnam's Ministry of Transport has issued a decision to temporarily shut Dien Bien Airport in the namesake northern upland province for eight months for an upgrade and expansion, starting from mid-April. The airport, located in Thanh Truong Ward in Dien Bien Phu City, will be closed from April 15 to December 17 this year. The current Dien Bien Airport was restored from Muong Thanh Airport, which was constructed by the French. The airport has a runway which is 1,830 meters in length and 30 meters in width, three aprons, and a passenger terminal that was built in 2004 and has an annual capacity of 300,000 passengers. Due to the short runway and simple landing systems, Dien Bien Airport only serves ATR 72 turboprops and Embraer 190 jets, which can transport a maximum 114 passengers. The Dien Bien Airport expansion project is aimed at making it capable of handling modern Airbus A320 and A321 aircraft and the equivalent airliners. Vietnam to raise air ticket price cap
The maximum airfare on four out of five flight distances will rise in the second or third quarter, according to a recent price report of the Ministry of Finance. The biggest increase will be 6.67% (to VND4 million or $170) for one-way tickets on flights of 1,280 kilometers (Hanoi to Phu Quoc Island) and longer. Flights between 1,000 and 1,280 kilometers will see their ticket cap price rise 6.25% to VND3.4 million. Flights of smaller distances will see their maximum price rise by between 2.27% and 3.58%. Flights under 500 kilometers will see no ceiling change. Their prices will remain at a maximum of VND1.7 million per one-way ticket. The cap price increase will likely bring Vietnam’s 2023 Consumer Price Index up by 0.07% points. Earlier this year, Vietnam Airlines and Bamboo Airways proposed increasing the cap ticket price to take into account rising in costs. The airfare price cap was last increased in 2015. By November last year, fuel costs had surged more than 80% … [Read more...] about Vietnam to raise air ticket price cap
Flights to northern Vietnam airport canceled due to field burning smoke from Laos
A dense cloud of smoke caused by field burning shrouded Dien Bien Airport in the eponymous province in northern Vietnam on Friday, resulting in many flight cancelations and detours. Consequently, one flight between Dien Bien and Ho Chi Minh City and two flights connecting Hanoi with the mountainous province, all of which were operated by Bamboo Airways, were canceled. Another flight from Ho Chi Minh City to Dien Bien was forced to make a detour to Noi Bai International Airport in Hanoi, from which its passengers were later transferred to the province by buses. VASCO, a subsidiary of Vietnam Airlines, also called off four flights between Hanoi and Dien Bien on the same day.
