Woodworkers in a small craft village in Hanoi’s outskirts have had reputation for creating the most sophisticated Buddha statues in Vietnam. After nearly a hundred years, the statue of “Thousand-Handed Quan Yin Buddha” in Dai Quan Pagoda, Khoai Chau District, Hung Yen Province still retains its beauty. The Buddha has a gentle face, calm half-closed eyes. Her two hands are clasped in front of the chest, praying for peace for mankind, while the other 998 hands stretch out, ready to protect and help her Buddhists. This will include 30 works managed by the municipal administration, 50 State-managed architectures, and 12 built before 1954. Under the plan, relevant agencies will be responsible for planning conservation and embellishment of architectural works; and building projects for managing, evaluating and verifying the quality of those to submit to the municipal People's Committee. The municipal administration will continue to guide the districts to maintain, renovate and repair a number of old architectural works built before 1954. Heavy downpour turns Hanoi streets into ‘rivers’
Many streets in Hanoi were turned into 'rivers' as a heavy downpour battered the Vietnamese capital city on Friday morning. Three dead, eight missing in northern Vietnam flooding
The northern highlands province of Hoa Binh reported three deaths: Dinh Thi Nguyet, 35, Ha Tam Uyen, 4, and Nguyen Minh Hieu, 10, were swept away by floodwaters and their bodies found later. Of the eight people listed missing, also swept away by floods, two were from Hoa Binh, one from Phu Tho, two in Lao Cai and four in Nam Dinh Province. The four Nam Dinh victims are a 35-year-old woman, her 8-year-old daughter and her two nieces, aged 11 and 12. They went to a river at around 6:30 p.m. Thursday. When the three children entered the river to swim, they were swept away. The woman tried to jump in to save them, only to be swept away as well. Vietnam ready for talks with US on tax evasion investigation into Vietnamese steel pipes
