TSFC is a program to boost initiatives of developing the aviation industry which was launched by SkyTeam, a global airline alliance with members being the world's large airlines. The program aims to find airlines operating the most eco-friendly commercial flight along with the most sustainable development. The airlines will be assessed on 14 items by International Examiner Council, experts, leaders of the aviation sector. The winner shall be honored at a special event in this June. The Sustainable Flight Challenge has attracted participation of 16 airlines from different countries, including the United States, France, Italy, the Netherlands, Spain, China, the Republic of Korea and so on. As the high school entrance and graduation exams are starting in a few weeks, final-year students at middle and high schools are as busy as a bee at back-to-back extra classes. Some students leave their extra classes and return home at 9:30 pm every day. Like her fellow students, N., a ninth grader of Tang Nhon Phu B Middle School in Thu Duc City, Ho Chi Minh City, is in crunch time. She has a very busy studying schedule. After school, she has to attend after-hours classes at a cultural fostering center and an English center. Additionally, she takes private lessons in literature and math. Her daily extra classes often end at 9:00 pm. She confessed that she felt under pressure but she had to try to get into a good high school. GE secures first 9HA combined cycle power plant in Vietnam
GE's 9HA turbine promises higher combined-cycle efficiency GE on May 16 announced that it secured an order from Samsung C&T Corporation, the leader of the engineering, procurement, and construction consortium that will provide power generation equipment for PV Power’s Nhon Trach 3 & 4 Power Plant in Ong Keo Industrial Park in the Nhon Trach district. The project marks GE’s first H-Class gas turbine order in Vietnam. Once in commercial operation in 2025, Nhon Trach 3 & 4 are expected to deliver over 1.6GW of electricity and will be the first power plants fueled by LNG in the country. In addition, on May 11, an MoU to improve the efficiency of the existing Nhon Trach 1 power plant and develop long-term cooperation on the maintenance for Nhon Trach 3 & 4 was signed and exchanged between GE and PV Power in the presence of Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh during his visit to Washington DC. Wasted resources About 3.9 million tonnes of PET, LDPE, HDPE and PP plastic are used in Vietnam each year. Of these, only 1.28 million tonnes (33 percent) are collected for recycling (CFR). Thus, Vietnam discards up to 2.62 million tonnes of plastic every year, leading to a loss of 75 percent of the material value of plastic, equivalent to US$2.2 – 2.9 billion per year. The IFC-WB report on “Plastics Circularity Opportunities and Barriers” estimated that if all the plastics used in Vietnam were collected and recycled, the total annual value of the recycled products and materials would be equivalent to US$3.4 billion. Carolyn Turk, World Bank Country Director for Vietnam said the rapid urbanization and the expanding middle class have significantly increased the consumption of plastic products and packaging, turning emerging markets in the region, including Vietnam into hot spots of plastic pollution.
