Việt Nam spent nearly $1 billion on gasoline imports in 8 months

This represents an increase of 19 per cent in volume and 36.8 per cent in value. For the eight months of the year, the country imported 7.22 million tonnes of petroleum of all types, worth $5.88 billion. Compared to the same period in 2022, it rose 22.2 per cent in volume but was down 5.5 per cent in value. The volume of imported diesel reached almost 4 million tonnes, a rise of 18.5 per cent. It accounted for 55 per cent of the country's total imported fuel. Meanwhile, Việt Nam bought 1.48 million tonnes of gasoline from the international market, up 38.4 per cent year-on-year and accounting for 20 per cent of the total import. SBV rolls out measures to reign in raising US-VND exchange rate

According to an SBV report, the exchange rate for the greenback broke the VNĐ24,000 mark on September 11 and reached its highest level at VNĐ24,076 on Monday. On the black market, the USD exchange rate on Monday was trading at around VNĐ 24,320 - 24,400, an increase of about 170 VNĐ compared to the previous week. Commercial banks reported a USD exchange rate of VNĐ24,500-24,600 earlier this month, a 3.3 per cent increase year-to-year compared to the same period last year. The VNĐ is facing significant pressure as the DXY index (a measure of the strength of the US dollar against a basket of six major currencies) has risen for the 10th consecutive week, marking the longest upward trend in recent years. Vietnam’s Nha Trang dismantles 12 illegal villas
Twelve villas illegally built at the Ocean View Nha Trang project in Khanh Hoa Province, south-central Vietnam are currently undergoing demolition due to exceeding their designated number of floors. Authorities in Nha Trang City, the capital of Khanh Hoa, began dismantling five out of the 12 villas in question earlier this month, using the city’s budget to cover the total cost of over VND9.7 billion (US$397,800), according to Nguyen Cong Danh, chairman of the People’s Committee of Vinh Truong Ward, where the property is located. The Nha Trang administration expects to collect the fees from the villa owners later. Owners who do not pay the fees will see their bank accounts frozen and their land plots unavailable for any transactions.
