Danish gymnasts open Viet Nam tour (09-02-2006) HA NOI — The National Danish Performance Team initiate their tour of Viet Nam today at Ha Noi's Combinatorial Palace as part of their sixth world journey. The team, founded in 1993, will present a show whose central theme is the universal power of love, expressed through dance and tumbling. "This is the third time a Danish gymnastics team has performed in Viet Nam and during this visit they will present a very different performance from the last two times," said Danish ambassador to Ha Noi, Peter Lysholt Hansen, early this week. The team's first two performances were mostly exercises to display their complicated skills. This time around their abilities will be expressed through a more artistic and rhythmic love story, said the ambassador. The 30-strong team will tour Hue, Da Nang and Nha Trang as well as Ha Noi and HCM City for three weeks. Travellers Notes (29-04-2006) Trans-Viet Nam tour for Buddhists Saigontourist Travel Service is conducting a trans-Viet Nam tour for a group of 80 overseas Vietnamese Buddhists from Australia, Canada, France and the US from April 16 to May 3. The tour, which combines travel with charity activities, began in HCM City and takes in Buon Me Thuot, Hoi An, Hue, Phong Nha, Nghe An, Ninh Binh, Ha Long, Hai Duong, Vinh Phuc, Ha Noi, Soc Son, Tien Giang, Kien Giang and Can Tho. The group has visited historic pagodas, Truong Son Cemetery and Dong Loc crossroads. A charity fund of US$60,000 donated by the Buddhists is being distributed to the blind, rehab centres, orphanages, leper houses, centres for homeless people, dioxin victims and poor families. Texas Music International (TexMI) reports, January 1, "New Years Day, Bob Livingston and son, Tucker, are to take their brand of multi-cultural folk and rock to Viet Nam and Thailand for a 20 day tour." January 4, the duo are to play Ho Chi Minh City's HCMC Youth Culture House before bopping on to Vung Tau, Ha Noi, Thai Nguyen and Quang Ninh. The Livingstons also plan to conduct monster music mashing classes for students of the Ho Chi Minh City and Ha Noi Conservatories of Music. US Businesses Back Viet Nam in Permanent Normal Trade Relations
A US trade mission of more than 20 corporations wanting to expand operations in Viet Nam toured the capital of Ha Noi and business hub Ho Chi Minh City, and met with top government officials from March 8 to 11. At the mission's meeting with Viet Nam's Prime Minister Phan Van Khai in Ha Noi on the last day, Matthew P. Daley, President of the US-ASEAN Business Council and head of the mission, pledged to lobby the US Congress to grant Viet Nam permanent normal trade relations and support its WTO entry bid. US-Vietnam Trade Council president Virginia Foote said, "Many American companies have really taken part in normalizing relations with Viet Nam since 1995. We will support Viet Nam when the Congress votes on granting the country permanent normal trade relation status."
