Viet Nam News HCM CITY — The HCM City Hát Bội Theatre is working on a new historical play called Lê Công Kỳ Án (Tales of Gia Định’s Commander) by Meritorious Artist and scriptwriter Hữu Danh that will be presented at the National Tuồng (Classical Drama) Festival 2018 in Quảng Ngãi Province in October. The 90-minute tragedy depicts the controversial life and death of Lê Văn Duyệt, a national hero who contributed to the growth of South Việt Nam in the 19th century. Duyệt was born in 1764 in Tiền Giang Province’s Cù Lao Hổ (now Hòa Khánh village). He began his career by supporting Emperor Gia Long (Nguyễn Phúc Ánh), founder of the Nguyễn Dynasty, when he was 17. Circus programme to celebrate War Invalids and Martyrs Day
Directed by meritorious artist, Tong Toan Thang, and People’s Artist, Ta Duy Anh, who is Director of the Vietnam Circus Federation, the circus programme will be staged at 8pm on July 27, 2018. This is the first time the Vietnam Circus Federation has assembled an artistic programme to pay tribute to the heroic martyrs who contributed to the revolution. The programme is considered as a chance for young circus artists to be educated on patriotic traditions and the father's indomitable hero tradition through circus art. In particular, all artists participating in the programme will not receive performance fees. The programme will also offer a number of tickets for the Hanoi municipal War Veterans' Association, the Hanoi City Association of Victims of Agent Orange / Dioxin, veterans and soldiers, and outstanding students who have overcome difficulties to maintain their good academic results. Overseas Vietnamese in Germany meet in early 2018
The delegates at the meeting (Photo: VNA) Speaking at the meeting, Vietnamese Ambassador to Germany Doan Xuan Hung expressed his pleasure with the deep and active development and integration of overseas Vietnamese in Germany. With over 40 years of integration, the overseas Vietnamese in Germany have become a friendship bridge between Vietnam and Germany, and they have actively participated in domestic movements such as participating in visits to Truong Sa Archipelago and donating to support flood victims. In the framework of the meeting, Ambassador Doan Xuan Hung hoped that associations and enterprises of overseas Vietnamese in Germany continue to unite, towards establishing an overseas Vietnamese association in Germany. The annual Phan Châu Trinh Awards, launched in 2008 by Phan Châu Trinh Culture Foundation, honour individuals and groups for their contributions to Vietnamese culture, translation, research and Vietnamese studies. Vietnam to crack down on day-to-day corruption in 2018: Party chief
Vietnam's Communist Party will step up its fight against corruption this year to weed out violations committed at a local level, according to Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong. Trong, who also chairs the Central Steering Committee on Anti-Corruption, discussed plans for 2018 and reviewed the progress made in 2017 as the committee convened for its 13th session on Monday. The committee concluded that its efforts last year had left no "off-limits zones" in the fight against corruption, and had transformed itself into a more effective, professional and responsible organization. "What we accomplished was very clear and widely supported by the people. The fight against corruption has become a movement that has created a good impression and reinforced public trust," Trong said.
