7-day break proposed for upcoming Tet holiday in Vietnam
Public workers in Vietnam are expected to have seven days off to enjoy the Vietnamese Lunar New Year holiday, or Tet, according to a proposal from the Ministry of Labor, Invalid and Social Affairs. The ministry’s Department of Work Safety said on Friday that it is collecting feedback about the proposal from relevant agencies before submitting it to the prime minister for approval. The department proposed two plans for the seven-day Tet break, including five days off from work and two days of compensatory leave as two days of the holiday overlaps the weekend. In the first plan, officials, public servants, and employees working at administrative, non-business agencies, political and socio-political organizations will have seven days off from February 8 to 14 next year. According to the second one, the seven-day Tet break will start from February 9 to 15. The Tet holiday is the biggest festival in a year for Vietnamese as it is an occasion for family reunion. The VN-Index on the Hồ Chí Minh Stock Exchange increased over 14.6 points, or 1.21 per cent, to close Wednesday at 1,266.11 points. The recovery helped recoup most of the losses hit in the last two sessions. On the southern bourse, breadth of the market returned to a positive zone with 275 stocks advancing, while 52 ended lower.
