Accordingly, the Indonesia Safeguards Committee (KPPI) has decided to apply the extension of self-defence taxes globally from September 5, 2023 to September 4, 2026. Vietnam signs semiconductor memorandums with US companies
The deals were signed in Washington D.C. on Tuesday in the presence of Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh, U.S. Ambassador to Vietnam Marc Knapper, and President and CEO of the Semiconductor Industry Association John Neuffer. The Ministry of Planning and Investment’s National Innovation Center signed a memorandum with Cadence Design Systems on the design and production of semiconductors. The center also signed a memorandum with Arizona State University to develop human resources for the semiconductor industry. The Ministry of Education and Training signed a memorandum with Intel to develop human resources for hi-tech sectors. Furthermore, the Vietnam Maritime Administration recently announced a draft to replace the Ministry of Transport’s Circular No.54 concerning the pricing of container handling and other associated services at Vietnamese seaports. The draft proposes a 10 per cent increase in the price of container handling services effective from January 1, 2024 in various ports including Haiphong, Ho Chi Minh City and the Cai Mep-Thi Vai seaport complex in the southern province of Ba Ria-Vung Tau. In addition, the draft proposes terminals able to receive ships capable of transporting more than 160,000DWT can impose a 10 per cent additional increase for loading and unloading services, meaning that those terminals could increase fees by as much as 20 per cent. Vietnam Electricity incurs further losses so far this year
The Commission for Management of State Capital at Enterprises has sent a report to the Ministry of Planning and Investment on the production, business, investment, and development of state-owned enterprises under its management. According to the report, EVN reported a loss of more than VND28.7 trillion ($1.21 billion) in the first eight months of 2023. In 2022, EVN posted a loss of VND26.5 trillion ($1.1 billion), excluding exchange rate differences. This year, EVN proposed an increase in the price of electricity to compensate for losses. This proposal has been approved as the electricity price has remained consistent over the past four years. Accordingly, in May, the retail electricity price increased by 3 per cent to an average of VND1,920 (8 US cents) per kilowatt hour, excluding VAT.
