Sun Taxi signs deal to buy 3,000 VinFast electric cars
At the signing ceremony (Photo: VNA) Hanoi (VNA) - The Sun Taxi JSC on June 1 signed a contract to purchase 3,000 VF 5 Plus electric cars from carmaker VinFast, marking the biggest vehicle purchase contract in Vietnam so far, with delivery scheduled from now until 2025. It is part of Sun Taxi's strategy on green transformation, business expansion and service quality improvement, thus promoting Vietnam's green transportation revolution and supporting the country's overall goal of achieving net-zero emissions by 2050. In the initial phase, Sun Taxi will deploy electric taxi services in cities and provinces such as Quang Binh, Hue, Quang Nam, Quang Ngai, Binh Dinh, Phu Yen, Nha Trang (Khanh Hoa), Phan Thiet (Binh Thuan), Gia Lai and Kon Tum. Vietnam has the 15th largest population of smokers in the world, and approximately 40,000 people die each year from diseases caused by smoking. People struggle to find jobs amid tanking economy
The government's Private Economic Development Research Board did a survey along with VnExpress on the situation of employees this year at the end of April, polling 8,343 people. It found 31% unemployed, and of them, 53% had worked in real estate, 44% in construction and 43% in hospitality. The highest unemployment rates were reported in Ho Chi Minh City, its neighboring provinces of Dong Nai and Binh Duong and the central city of Da Nang (all over 30%). As for reasons for joblessness, 15% suffer because of lack of foreign language skills and 12% because they lack qualifications. But the main reason is the unfavorable economic situation, which has hit businesses hard. More than 32% said they are jobless because their employer closed down temporarily or for good or went bankrupt, and 27% said they were laid off because their company had no orders and had to downsize. According to the minister, with the country rich in nickel used in batteries for electric vehicles (EV), the government wants to see more investment in nickel downstream sectors to boost economic growth. He said the Kalimantan region can receive 12.35 billion USD in investment while North Maluku and Sulawesi can attract 9.78 billion USD and 9.84 billion USD in battery supply chain projects, respectively. Brakeless bus crashes into multiple cars at red light in Ho Chi Minh City
A bus' brake failure resulted in its collision with numerous cars at a red light on Phan Dang Luu Street in Binh Thanh District, Ho Chi Minh City on Thursday morning. Eyewitnesses reported that the bus, coded route 104, was running on Phan Dang Luu Street from the Phu Nhuan intersection toward Ba Chieu Market and could not stop at the red light before the intersection with Le Van Duyet Street. As a result, the bus rear-ended a taxi and crashed into two other cars being halted at the red light and only came to a stop after veering onto the sidewalk and colliding with a lamp post. Vietnamese PM orders emergency measures to ease farm produce congestion border with China
Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh in a recently-signed dispatch ordered the adoption of urgent measures to alleviate goods congestion and facilitate the export of agro-products along the border with China. The dispatch was issued at a time when border gates in the northern border province of Lang Son have seen an upsurge in the number of container trucks carrying farm produce for export, resulting in a prolonged customs clearance process and limited clearance capacity. Several fruits, meanwhile, are now ready to harvest in the country. This could pose a higher risk of congestion at the border gates as more container trucks transporting fruits for export to China will head to these areas.
