Outreach clinic completes 9th year of free treatment for rural children

Outreach clinic completes 9th year of free treatment for rural children By Tam An A doctor examines students in the Mekong Delta province of Dong Thap during the FedEx Delivers Heartbeats Outreach Clinic program – PHOTO: FEDEX HCMC - FedEx Express and VinaCapital Foundation have completed the ninth consecutive year of the FedEx Delivers Heartbeats Outreach Clinic, through which children in rural areas of Vietnam were provided free specialty healthcare and medical treatment for congenital heart disease. With top cardiologists and surgeons from HCMC, Hanoi and Danang, the mobile clinics traveled across the country to diagnose and provide treatment for children with heart defects and other diseases. The clinic visits included registration, diagnosis, surgery and post-operative assistance for patients and their families. During Covid-19, it has become even more vital for the outreach clinics to reach remote areas that have limited access to healthcare. Despite the challenges, the program was able to set up temporary clinics in rural locations so that children there could receive essential healthcare. The program prioritized enhancing the quality of each clinic and minimizing risks of infection. With the pandemic, mobile clinics were carefully equipped with face masks, hand sanitizers and sterilized equipment. Strict measures were taken to ensure proper social distancing. “Congenital heart disease among children in Vietnam remains high, with some 11,000 babies born every year with this disease. With the FedEx Delivers Heartbeats program, we hope to increase early detection of heart defects in children and offer access to diagnosis and treatment for these children so that they can live their lives to the fullest,” said Hardy Diec, managing director of FedEx Express Indochina. “For the past nine years, thanks to the support from FedEx, VCF's Rural Outreach Clinic program has reached thousands of children with congenital heart defects who receive …

French Vietnamese artists blend graffiti and music to help orphans

DJ Florian Picasso, an adopted great-grandson of Spanish painting legend Pablo Picasso, played EDM while painter Cyril Kongo created eight graffiti works that will be auctioned for charity. This was the first time both artists of Vietnamese origin were collaborating on a project. The 90-minute event was live-streamed on both artists’ social media accounts last weekend. Cyril Kongo paints Florian Picasso on a graffiti work. Florian was born in 1990 in Ho Chi Minh City and adopted when he was three months old. Although he has grown up in France surrounded by European art, "I was and will always be a kid from Saigon until the day I die," said Florian. Cyril Kongo, whose real name is Cyril Phan, was born in 1969 in Toulouse, France, to a Vietnamese father and French mother. He started his graffiti career as a freelance artist at 18. Within a decade, he became known in the street art community for his drawing techniques, expressions and humanitarian values showcased in his works. One of the eight artworks created by Cyril, inspired by Paris, where Kongo started his graffiti career and Hanoi, where he opened his world's only private gallery. Photo courtesy of Cyril Kongo …

Dedicated efforts justify BIDV MetLife successes

BIDV MetLife representatives received an AmCham CSR Recognition Award 2020 In the social distancing period of the COVID-19 pandemic last year, BIDV MetLife received a number of claims for insurance benefits under the circumstances of limited travel and difficulties in the verification process. However, with responsibility and the spirit of always putting clients’ interest first, BIDV MetLife overcame such limitations, quickly collected documents, made claim decisions, and paid for the clients’ families as soon as the paperwork had been completed. One particular client had an accident and died in May, leaving behind their life partner and two school-aged children. BIDV MetLife had its staff quickly verify the information. After collating the results, the company decided to pay accidental death benefit as in the contract terms with the aim to promptly help the family stablilise after the unexpected event, and ensure future education for the children. Another client suddenly died while travelling abroad last year. The customer’s insurance contract did not specify the beneficiary – luckily, the client purchased life insurance from BIDV MetLife. After receiving the case, BIDV MetLife’s Benefit Department helped the client’s family complete the estate division agreement so that they could take advantage of the benefits as claimed in the contract. Over the last six years, BIDV MetLife has paid almost VND36 billion ($1.56 million) in insurance benefits. In 2020 alone, BIDV MetLife successfully resolved 5,790 cases, paying around VND25.2 billion ($1.1 million). Since its establishment in 2014, the top priority and mission that BIDV MetLife has pursued is to strive to bring the best for customers, and ensure customer service quality in any and all circumstances. Not only focusing on taking care of and ensuring customer benefits, since entering the Vietnamese market BIDV MetLife has utilised corporate social responsibility (CSR) programmes to contribute to the …
