Chinese telecom giant ZTE vowed on Friday to fight back against a US order banning it from purchasing and using US technology for seven years, a move that has angered Beijing. US Centcom Twitter account hacked
The Twitter and YouTube accounts of the US military command were suspended for a few hours after being hacked by a group claiming to back Islamic State. One message on Centcom's Twitter feed said: "American soldiers, we are coming, watch your back." It was signed by Isis, another name for the Islamic State. Some internal military documents also appeared on the Centcom Twitter feed. Centcom said it was "cyber-vandalism" and not a serious data breach. In a statement, it said there was no operational impact and no classified information was posted. "We are viewing this purely as a case of cyber-vandalism," it said. Later on Monday, its Twitter feed became visible again, although not active. Embarrassingly, the hack happened as President Barack Obama was giving a speech on cyber-security. US releases DPRK accounts in Macau bank
On March 19, the US released all assets of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) that it froze for over a year amid a fresh round of the talks that resumed earlier in the day. According to Yonhap News, Christopher Hill, the US's top nuclear negotiator, said all of the 25 million USD would be transferred to a DPRK account at a Chinese bank so the funds could be used for humanitarian purposes. Also, US Deputy Assistant Treasury Secretary Daniel Glaser said the DPRK had proposed the transfer of the funds to an account "held by the DPRK's Foreign Trade Bank at the Bank of China in Beijing". Earlier, China's State Adviser Tang Jiaxuan on March 18 said that the US and the DPRK signed an accord on the frozen funds.
