Vietnam develops green agriculture to increase exports to E.U.
Last year, Vietnam’s export revenue of agro-fishery-forestry products set a record high of 53.22 billion USD, up 9.3% year-on-year. However, Europe accounted for only 11.3% of its market share. This is a modest number, although the agricultural sector has optimized many advantages of the E.U. - Vietnam Free Trade Agreement (EVFTA). One of the main reasons is said to be the union’s high requirements on farm imports, while Vietnam’s agricultural production has yet to meet green growth requirements. According to the World Bank’s report, agriculture is the second highest emitter, accounting for 19% of the nation’s total gas emissions in 2020. Digital technology to spearhead Vietnam’s drive for Industry 4.0
By 2025, the Ministry of Information and Communications expected Vietnam to have 80,000 digital tech firms, meeting at least 50% of digital tech and services from state agencies. The survey showed that the overall national poverty ratio was 7.52%, with 4.03% being poor households and 3.49% being near-poor families. The highest poverty ratio based on the multi-dimensional poverty standards was in the northern midland and mountainous region, at 21.92%, followed by the Central Highlands at 15.39%, the north-central and central coastal region at 10.04%, the Mekong Delta region at 5.73%, the Red River Delta region at 2.45%, and the southeast region, 0.34%. The northern midland and mountainous region led in both ratios of poor and near-poor households (14.23% and 7.69%, respectively), while the southeast region reported the lowest ratios at 0.21% and 0.13%, respectively. The data of the survey serve a foundation for the ministry to decide poverty reduction and social welfare policies as well as other socio-economic policies in 2023. 350kg wartime bomb tackled in northern Vietnam
The Military High Command in the northern mountainous province of Son La and competent agencies have transported a wartime bomb recently unearthed by residents to a site for safe detonation. The explosive device was detected in Hua La commune of Son La city on February 1 by a group of workers when an excavator was used at the location. The bomb, about around 1.2 metres in length and 350kg in weight, was left over during the war of resistance against US imperialists and the detonator remained intact.
