(Photo: VNA) Hanoi (VNA) – Alongside urbanisation , flooding in cities of Vietnam, a country highly vulnerable to climate change, is getting complicated and needs concerted solutions, according to experts. There are more than 800 cities nationwide, including the two special municipalities of Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City. Big and populous cities such as Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Da Nang, and Vinh of Nghe An province have frequently suffered from heavy losses caused by downpours and flooding. Urbanization ratio expected to reach 53.9% in 2023
According to Head of the MoC Office Dau Minh Thanh, urban planning, management and development has been defined as one of the three breakthrough stages of the sector. In 2022, the country's urbanization ratio increased by 1.2% to 41.7%, he noted, adding that in the year, the ministry recognized five areas as tier-4 urban areas. As of November 2022, the country had 888 urban areas, including two special-type areas, 22 tier-1, 33 tier-2, 47 tier-3 and 94 tier-4 urban areas. Thanh said that in 2023, the ministry will focus on implementing the government's action plan to implement Resolution No.06-NQ/BCT on sustainable urban planning, construction, management and development until 2030 with a vision to 2045. Sustainable development key to success of Vietnamese coffee

Tien was speaking at the international conference on coffee on December 11. The Deputy Minister said Vietnam had 710,000ha of coffee with a yield of 2.7 tonnes per hectare in 2021, three times higher than the average global yield. Between 2021 and 2022, the country produced 1.7 million tonnes and exported 3.9 billion USD worth of coffee, up 31.3% year-by-year. Downtown area gets facelift as construction barriers for HCMC’s first metro removed
Nguyen, 55, the owner of a souvenir shop on Le Loi Street, fixed up his store after the barriers for the construction of the Ben Thanh Station of the metro line No.1 were taken down a few months ago. During this year's Lunar New Year holiday, he put imported goods in front of the store's door and decorated it with signs to attract customers. Nguyen said that his family's famous souvenir shop, which had been open for more than 10 years, had to switch to selling coffee because business was slow when the metro construction site was being built and after the pandemic struck two years ago.
