Vietnam and Cambodia signed a treaty on demarcation in 1985 and supplemented the document twice. Vietnam and Cambodia are working on completing the remaining 16% of the demarcation work, a Vietnamese spokesperson said today, adding that negotiations on this issue are on the way. Spokesperson Le Thi Thu Hang of the Vietnamese Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in answering a question on the issue raised at a press conference on May 26. “Completing the demarcation and planting border markers build the Vietnam-Cambodia borderline of peace, friendship, and sustainable development is the long-standing legitimate aspiration of the two peoples,” Hang said. 37 trees in Dak Nong Province recognized as heritage trees
A over-600-year-old Lagerstroemia speciose tree has its diameter of arm spans of ten people. According to Chairman of South Central Highlands Forestry One Member Limited Company Nguyen Ngoc Binh, the recognized trees have been growing in Quang Truc Commune, Tuy Duc District, Dak Nong Province. The unit proposed VACNE to recognize a complex of 56 Lagerstroemia speciose trees and an ancient banyan tree in Quang Truc Commune under the management of the South Central Highlands Forestry Company as heritage trees. A ancient banyan tree in Quang Truc Commune is recognized as heritage tree of Vietnam. Through the assessment process, the VACNE concluded that 36 Lagerstroemia speciose trees and one ancient banyan tree in Quang Truc Commune meet the Vietnam heritage tree criteria. Lawmakers call for nuclear energy revival, cite zero emissions target
Many countries have recognized nuclear power as a clean type of energy with low greenhouse gas emissions after the 2021 United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP26), the National Assembly’s Economic Committee says in a report. Vietnam therefore should consider reviving its plans to develop nuclear energy to ensure energy security and independent economic development, it says. To make this happen, the Party should approve the move and the government should then consider restarting the Ninh Thuan Nuclear Power Project at an appropriate time. The National Assembly had shut down Vietnam’s first nuclear power project in 2016, saying the nation could not afford it then. On May 17, the price of US WTI crude oil remained at a high level of over $114 per barrel while Brent oil maintained its upward momentum at $114.28 per barrel. Before the next adjustment, which was due on May 21, petrol prices in Vietnam were forecast to continue to increase to higher levels.
