Annual Tet tree-planting campaign launched nationwide

A tree-planting campaign is organized in the north-central province of Quang Binh . The movement titled “Forever grateful to Uncle Ho” aims to raise awareness of the importance and benefits of forests and green trees to people, the significance of the forest and tree protection, contribution to the building resilience to the impacts of climate change. A tree growing campaign calling for one million trees to be planted in the city was launched last year. The city’s authorities has also delegated Cu Chi District to speed up the land revocation process for the project of HCMC Zoo and Botanical Garden. Vice President Dang Thi Ngoc Thinh also launched a tree-planting movement in the north-central province of Quang Binh on February 18. Speaking at the event, Ms. Dang Thi Ngoc Thinh said that late President Ho Chi Minh initiated the tree planting campaign in the Spring in 1960. It has since become an annual festival at the beginning of each lunar New Year. Climate change and extreme weather have recently caused huge loss in provinces in the Central region. Therefore, tree planting has great significance and an important role in the sustainable development of the country, she added. The campaign also aims to respond the PM’s call for planting one billion trees in the next five years and the Government's Resolution 120/NQ-CP on climate resilient and sustainable development of the Mekong Delta region. After the launching ceremony, Vice President Dang Thi Ngoc Thinh offered flowers and incenses at a temple worshipping President Ho Chi Minh, national heroes and martyrs, visited and presented gifts to the Dong Hoi City’s caring center for children with disabilities. Former tourism chief blames visa rule for Vietnam’s falling tourist arrivals

Editor’s note: Luong Hoai Nam, former deputy head of the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism, says the current visa policy is discouraging international tourists from visiting the country in his op-ed exclusively written for Tuoi Tre (Youth) newspaper. Nam’s piece of writing is particularly worth noticing at a time when Vietnam reported its tenth straight drop in tourism arrival number in March, according to the VNAT statistics. The Vietnamese tourism visa policy, especially the complicated procedures to get a visa, is one of the import reasons why the number of international tourists visiting Vietnam did not increase but continuously shrank over the past time. Local tourism authorities attributed the falling number arrivals in ten months in a row to the plunges of the Russian and Chinese markets, while the growths of other markets could not offset for such losses. Such explanation, to me, is only partially correct. Reality is that the tourism visa policy is a very significant hurdle for the growth of international tourism in Vietnam. Complex visa rules; short exemption list With nearly eight million international visitors a year, including those who come by road via the borders with China, Laos, and Cambodia and those who arrive for business and investment purposes, the number of tourist arrival to Vietnam is only equal to that of a single destination in Thailand, Pattaya. And it is lower than that of Phukhet. Thailand rakes in US$60-65 billion from about 25 million international tourists it welcomes on an annual basis. The tourist arrivals of Hong Kong and Singapore are triple the figure of Vietnam. In my opinion, one of the main reasons vacationers do not choose Vietnam is the country’s visa policy, especially its complicated procedures. Holidaymakers do not mind paying a few dozens of U.S. dollars to get a visa, but they are indeed discouraged by complicated formality, and will thus travel to where they can enjoy a visa …

Japanese Technology by FUTUREK SG Takes Singapore’s Street Food Culture Closer to the People

Launch of digital platform WAK WAK HAWKER for all things hawker-relatedSINGAPORE - Media OutReach - 9 February 2021 - FUTUREK SG PTE. LTD., a digital creative agency that works with the latest technology from Japan, launches a new website service, WAK WAK HAWKER (WWH). The platform aims to provide locals and tourists with a comprehensive guide to Singapore's hawker culture and information at their fingertips.   Singapore's First Dedicated Digital Platform for Hawker Centres   WWH bridges information of hawker centres across the country to become a database which users can quickly access to decide their next meal.  With hawker centres being hallowed in the Unesco list of Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity in 2020, WWH aims to preserve their legacy by promoting the historical, cultural, economic and social value of this national asset.   Users can easily access information about hawker centres and individual stalls (distinct shops helmed by hawkers), as well as a Search feature that locates hawker centres from nearby landmarks and filters stalls based on food category. The UX/UI design of the platform was only achieved after extensive research of gourmet and food websites around the world. The team had only one goal in mind -- "How will the platform help users to decide where and what to eat?"   The platform is enhanced with insights from everyday Singaporeans who view hawker culture as a way of life. Whether they are diners, hawkers themselves or hawker centre owners, get a glimpse of their world through article content based on interviews with these personalities. Along with data about hawker centres and hawker stalls, these feature content are updated regularly.   Mr Akiyasu Takaseki, Chief Operating Officer at FUTUREK SG and leader of the WWH development project, shares "I often frequent hawker centres since moving here because I found this idea of dining intriguing, and almost disjointed, from my …
