"In the past, the weather was dry and sunny in the three summer months but it has been very strange in recent years. There were days when the weather suddenly changed from dry and sunny to rainy and we lost everything in those days," she added. "Previously, our family could produce 10 tonnes of salt/year and it was sufficient for us. Recently, our life is very unstable because we can lose our product anytime when sea water encroaches our salt fields. Each salt season (from March to July) my family can produce only 5 tonnes, earning 1.5 million dong only," she said. According to Anh, her family has to mend their salt fields very often because of the rise of sea level. Viet Nam leader to demand action on climate change
Vietnamese Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung is expected to call for genuine action on climate change at the current conference in Copenhagen, said a senior official. The Deputy Minister for Natural Resources and Environment, Nguyen Thai Lai, who is accompanying the Government leader, told the Vietnam News Agency that Dung will release a statement stressing that it is essential to address climate change, adding that there is no other choice. "Along with moves being made by other nations, it is necessary for the entire world to make a concerted effort and introduce emergency measures to prevent and adapt to climate change". Dung is likely to take this line in his speech to show that Vietnam takes climate change extremely seriously, according to the Deputy Environment Minister. CANCUN – The high-level session of the UN conference on climate change opened in Cancun on 7 December.About tens of leaders of 158 nations and several international organisations attended the meeting. US, China vow urgent action on climate change
