Correct inaccurate portrayal of Vietnamese soldiers in TV serial: Defense Ministry
The Vietnamese version of the hugely popular South Korean serial, "Descendants of the Sun", dealing with love on the battlefield, has sparked controversy over “serious mistakes” that viewers have spotted and protested. Directed by Tran Huu Loc, famous for the success of Oscar-nominated feature film, "The Tailor", tells the story of officers of the NH1 Coast Guard fighting crime and protecting the country. It includes a love story between a captain and a female army doctor. As of Wednesday, Vietnam Cable Television (VTC) had already screened 12 of 48 episodes (two a day, three days a week). An online backlash ensued almost immediately after the screenings began, with people outraged about “unacceptable” mistakes about army rank, military uniform and manners of Vietnamese soldiers. Most of TV serials have at least 30 episodes. But the longer they are, the more insipid that the audience feel. In the past, the audience regretted to miss any episode but now it is no problem even if they miss several episodes. Because there is not much change in an episode and watching one episode, the audience can easily guess the contents of the next few episodes. All TV serials use actors and actresses who are models, singers or show hosts, but only a few of them are good actors. It is said that the biggest reason for this situation is the policy. Foreign TV serials take Viet Nam by storm (03-08-2009) HCM CITY — Remaking foreign TV serials is becoming very popular in Viet Nam, with nearly 20 shot and broadcast since the first one in 2004. They are mostly remade from successful South Korean, Chinese, and American serials. South Korea is the biggest beneficiary with several Korean scripts being bought by Vietnamese studios. Of the 20 serials that have been remade, it has accounted for half and includes popular series such as Mui Ngo Gai (The Scent of Sage Leaves) and Ngoi Nha Hanh Phuc (Happy House). The 32-part serial titled Mau cua tinh yeu (Color of love) directed by Hung Phuong tells about the effervescency, enthusiasm, spontaneity and humor of young people who live well with a meaningful and exacting goal.
