Clients choose to buy Apple products in an Apple store in Ha Noi. — VNS Photo Doan Tung Many iPhone users are upset with Apple authorised service providers (AASP) in Viet Nam after their phones warranties were not honoured. Illegal modification is a reason that Apple authorised stores refuse to fulfil warranties. On the disclaimer of the warranty, Apple Vietnam does not specify any components that have been modified or replaced, according to Trung Duc, an iPhone user in HCM City. "I bought a genuine iPhone from an Apple reseller with a warranty so why should I have to take it to be repaired in another phone stores. My phone was bought with an original seal but Apple Vietnam said it was modified, which is ridiculous," said Duc. An unnamed person from AASP revealed to Zingnew.vn that many warranties between 2022 and 2023 for iPhone devices are denied by Apple Vietnam. Rejected devices were mostly iPhone 11 and iPhone 13 Pro Max. Thu Hien, a resident in Tan Binh district, HCM … [Read more...] about Apple stores in Viet Nam denied providing warranty to local users

PVS in talks with foreign investors for renewable energy investments
CEO of PVS Le Manh Cuong said at the firm’s AGM 2023 on May 29 that PVS's involvement in constructing 33 foundations for Taiwanese partners has established an autonomous supply chain, specifically dedicated to PVS and Vietnam as a whole. Cuong recognises Vietnam's extensive shallow water areas and evaluates them as having the greatest potential in the Asia-Pacific region for offshore wind power. As a result, the installation costs of businesses in Vietnam are expected to be more competitive compared to China, South Korea, or Japan. Furthermore, there is a rising demand for renewable energy in the Middle Eastern market, which PVS is actively exploring. PVS's leadership is confident that they will emerge as a dominant force in the domestic and regional service market. According to Cuong, the Power Development Plan VIII explicitly demonstrates support for offshore renewable energy projects without any capacity limitations, and offers backing for electricity exports. At present, … [Read more...] about PVS in talks with foreign investors for renewable energy investments
How bad debts influence lending rates
Latest figures from the central bank show that in late February the on-balance sheet non-performing ratio of the banking system stood at 2.91 per cent, an increase compared to 2.46 per cent in late 2016, 1.49 per cent in late 2021 and most recently, 2 per cent in late 2022. However, according to a State Bank of Vietnam (SBV) assessment, several sorts of debts have the potential to be turned into bad debts in the future, such as investment into corporate bonds for debt restructuring, hard-to-collect receivables, among others. “If such debts were considered, the non-performing loans (NPLs) ratio of the system might reach 5 per cent of total outstanding balances,” said SBV Governor Nguyen Thi Hong. One positive point is that credit institutions have been taking practical measures to ensure operational safety through boosting their loan loss reserve (LLR) funds for their bad debts . Accordingly, credit institutions have maintained a fairly high LLR ratio approximating … [Read more...] about How bad debts influence lending rates

Printer production at Canon Vietnam (Photo: hanoimoi.com.vn) Hanoi (VNA) – Amid the slowing down of the global investment flows, experts held that improving both quality and number of foreign investment projects is a heavy task for Vietnam, requiring great efforts from the Vietnamese Government to fulfil the “dual targets”. A hot dog that isn’t a hot dog in Vietnam
Living in Vietnam can bring moments of total pleasure and those of total wonder. When is a hot dog not a hot dog? Well, that answer came to me through experience some 10 years ago when I began my teaching career here in Vietnam. It was only weeks after I arrived in Ho Chi Minh City to start a new life journey and I had already experienced my first episode of 'Vietnam Belly.' I wasn’t feeling all that great and I found that the local food and cheap beer just weren’t what my body wanted. I met a fellow Australian expat who introduced me to his employer – a major name in Vietnam’s teaching industry. Despite my unreliable health, I interviewed with the company. I was just hoping things would hold themselves together long enough to get the job, and they did. When I found out I got the job, my only thoughts were about how much I hoped I would be able to recover by the time I started classes. Early the next morning, my phone rang. It was the school asking if I could cover a class … [Read more...] about A hot dog that isn’t a hot dog in Vietnam
AI poses ‘extinction’ risk, say experts
Global leaders should be working to reduce "the risk of extinction" from artificial intelligence technology, a group of industry chiefs and experts warned on Tuesday. A one-line statement signed by dozens of specialists, including Sam Altman whose firm OpenAI created the ChatGPT bot, said tackling the risks from AI should be "a global priority alongside other societal-scale risks such as pandemics and nuclear war". ChatGPT burst into the spotlight late last year, demonstrating an ability to generate essays, poems and conversations from the briefest of prompts. The program's wild success sparked a gold rush with billions of dollars of investment into the field, but critics and insiders have raised the alarm. Common worries include the possibility that chatbots could flood the web with disinformation, that biased algorithms will churn out racist material, or that AI-powered automation could lay waste to entire industries. Located on Ring Road 3, the nine-kilometer Nhat Tan bridge (or Vietnam-Japan Friendship bridge) is the longest suspension bridge in Vietnam. It is a cable-stayed bridge crossing the Red river in Hanoi, inaugurated on January 4, 2015. This bridge, the gateway to Hanoi, also serves as a symbol of friendship between Vietnam and Japan. "The dog’s paws were bleeding and it had collapsed," said Rajes Donarow, a poultry farmer who reportedly chased the car on his motorbike and rescued the dog on May 27. A dog is chasing a car. Illustration photo by Pexels "The gravel was also scraping its chest while the man continued driving," the Strait Times quoted him as saying. According to Donarow, when he saw the man, who he recognized as a durian plantation and landscape business owner from the same neighborhood, he chased him on his motorbike. He signaled the driver to stop the car but the man ignored him. Passers-by then surrounded the man and his injured dog while Donarow called the police. The dog owner said that he was taking the dog to a plantation two kilometers away and it resisted getting into his car. However, as Donarow noted, the dog immediately jumped into the car after being unchained. Both Donarow and the dog owner made reports on the case to local police when they arrived. Companies to continue layoffs on lack of orders: surveys
Most are in construction and manufacturing, the survey done in April together with the government's Private Sector Development Committee found. Half of them are in Ho Chi Minh City and Binh Duong Province, and the main reason for the layoffs is a lack of orders. There are a number of challenges the economy faces currently, and businesses are severely impacted by them. Nearly 30% of companies expect their revenues to halve this year. Some 82% plan to downsize or shut down, and a similar number has a negative outlook on the economy this year. Businesses want the government to cut taxes and fees to help them overcome the challenges. They also want banks to credit loan interest rates and simplify lending procedures. A survey by the Ministry of Labor, Invalids and Social Affair this month confirmed what the earlier said about worker layoffs and in fact warned about more cuts if the economy does not improve. Companies have been sacking workers since the second half of … [Read more...] about Companies to continue layoffs on lack of orders: surveys
