The death toll from a fire at an Indonesian fuel storage depot run by state energy firm Pertamina has risen to 33 with nearly a dozen more in critical condition, health authorities said Friday. Top officials called for an audit of Indonesia's energy facilities after the March 3 blaze ripped through a nearby residential area, gutting houses and burning cars next to the depot in capital Jakarta. "As of today, 33 people in total have died and 11 are still being treated. They are in the ICU and their condition is serious," Jakarta health agency spokesman Luigi, who like many Indonesians has one name, told AFP Friday. Authorities previously gave a death toll of 18 the day after the explosion. Thousands of people were forced to evacuate when the fire broke out but the local disaster mitigation agency said all evacuees have since left shelters. Three beach-goers who were in grade seventh drowned in Ha Tinh Province, north-central Vietnam after strong waves swept them away on Saturday. The body of one of the three was already found, while the others remain missing. Nguyen Hai Ly, secretary of the Party Committee in Thach Hai Commune, Thach Ha District, confirmed the drownings to Tuoi Tre (Youth) newspaper on the same day. At 2:00 pm on the day, a group of 10 students ventured into the beach in Thach Hai Commune for sea bathing. Three of them were swept away by strong waves and went missing. After one hour of rescue efforts by locals and competent forces, the body of a female student was found nearly 200 meters from the drowning site. The two others were identified as male students who lived in Dong Mon Commune in Ha Tinh City. The rescue team continues to search for the bodies of the two remaining victims.
