My love affair with pho began way back in 1980, after moving from a small town in British Columbia, Canada to attend an art college in Vancouver. And like many students living in cramped rooming houses with only a hot plate to cook, I was always searching for eateries that served fast, inexpensive food. That’s when I discovered My Tan on Broadway Avenue, which was among the first Vietnamese restaurants in Vancouver. The restaurant was operated by a family from Vietnam, who came to live in Canada. I had my first bowl of pho at this little restaurant, which quickly became one of my go-to eating places during my college years. Vietnam aim for emphatic win over Singapore in 2019 SEA Games men’s football
Vietnam will settle for nothing less than a multiple-goal victory over Singapore tonight to guarantee a semifinal berth in the men’s football competition at the 2019 Southeast Asian (SEA) Games in the Philippines. The Vietnamese are currently on top of Group B with nine points, three clear of Indonesia and defending champions Thailand. Last week, the junior Golden Dragons clinched two comprehensive wins over Laos and Brunei before pulling off a remarkable 2-1 comeback against Indonesia. They will face underdogs Singapore in their fourth group-stage game at Rizal Memorial Stadium in Manila at 7:00 pm on Tuesday (Vietnam time). The game will be broadcast live on national television channel VTV6. The young Singaporeans stand almost no chance of progressing from the Group B after they were held to a 0-0 draw by Laos, and defeated 0-2 and 0-3 by Indonesia and Thailand, respectively. Vietnam will need more than a win over the young Lions if they want to secure their berth in the … [Read more...] about Vietnam aim for emphatic win over Singapore in 2019 SEA Games men’s football
Vietnam through to semifinals of men’s football at SEA Games 2019
Vietnam held Thailand to a 2-2 draw in their last group-stage game to secure a semifinal berth as Group B’s leaders in men’s football at the 2019 Southeast Asian (SEA) Games in the Philippines on Thursday afternoon. The Vietnamese staged a comeback at the Binan Football Stadium, about 100km from the Filipino capital of Manila, where striker Nguyen Tien Linh scored twice to correct goalkeeper Nguyen Van Toan’s blunder. The young Golden Dragons conceded an early goal only five minutes into the game as the ball hit Thai striker Supachai from a careless goal kick by Van Toan and bounced back into the Vietnamese net. Only six minutes later, Van Toan once again failed to catch the ball from a shot by Suphanat, creating the chance for the Thai player to finish it in his second attempt, doubling the lead for the young War Elephants. The two blameworthy mistakes were thought to have shattered Vietnam’s spirit but the Vietnamese players proved they did … [Read more...] about Vietnam through to semifinals of men’s football at SEA Games 2019
