Many experts expect that young talents of Hanoi-based Viettel FC will be given more game time in the upcoming group stage of the 2022 AFC Cup to prove themselves. Viettel FC, Laos’ Young Elephants FC, Cambodia’s Phnom Penh Crown FC, and Singapore’s Hougang United FC are direct entrants in Group I of the tournament. Vietnamese star midfielder Nguyen Quang Hai left for France on Monday morning after L’Équipe reported that he is on the verge of signing for Ligue 2 outfit Pau FC. Dubbed the 'Vietnamese Messi,' Quang Hai is expected to undergo a medical check-up upon his arrival in France ahead of signing an initial two-year contract, with the option to extend for a further third year, according to the L’Équipe ’s report on Sunday. If the deal is concluded, he will become the first Vietnamese footballer to be contracted to a French professional club. Vietnam's star midfielder Nguyen Quang Hai officially joined the roster of French club Pau FC after passing a medical on Wednesday. The verified Facebook page of Pau FC, headquartered in Pau District, Pyrénées-Atlantiques Province, about 800 kilometers from Paris, published a post to introduce Hai to fans following his successful completion of a medical examination. “Vietnam international offensive midfielder (45 selections) joins Pau FC for the next two seasons. He will wear Pau FC’s No. 19,” the Facebook post reads. The Vietnamese midfielder’s two-year contract with Pau FC, which includes the option to extend for a third year, makes Hai the first Vietnamese player to sign for a professional club in France. Semi-automated offside technology will be used at this year's World Cup, promising decisions that are more accurate and a lot quicker, world soccer's governing body FIFA said on Friday. In what can be considered an extraordinary development in the officiating of the game, technology will be able to resolve contentious offside calls with a speed and accuracy unimaginable less than a decade ago. Using cameras strategically positioned around the stadiums, and a chip in the match ball, FIFA said the technology will go a long way to cutting down on continuous Video Assistant Referee (VAR) decisions on marginal offside calls and reduce the time needed to check. "We have been working on a more consistent use of VAR, in particular concerning the line of intervention," said Pierluigi Collina, chairman of the FIFA Referees Committee, at a news briefing.
