Vietnam develops world’s first effective vaccine against ASF: German newspaper
In its article, Agrarheute noted that the ASF epidemic is causing great concern to pig farmers globally. However, Vietnam has recently announced that it has achieved a breakthrough as it had successfully produced an effective vaccine which is the first commercial one globally to prevent the ASF epidemic, it said. The newspaper cited the confirmation given by the Agricultural Research Service (ARS) of the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) in an official letter sent to the Department of Animal Health of Vietnam that emphasised the safety and effectiveness of the NAVET-ASFVAC vaccine against ASF developed by Vietnam. Previously, the Vietnamese Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD) held a press conference to announce the successful production of a vaccine against ASF. Vietnam issues new template passports for citizens from July 1
The new template passports aim to prevent the creation of fake passports. The Ministry of Public Security (MPS) started issuing new template passports for Vietnamese citizens today [July 1], according to the Immigration Department of Vietnam. The move is aimed at implementing Circular 73/2021/TT-BCA of the MPS on passport specimens. Each page of the new passport will be printed with renowned Vietnamese scenery and cultural heritage, namely Ha Long Bay, Hung King Temple, Hue Imperial Citadel, Hoi An Ancient Town, My Son Sanctuary, Nha Rong Habour, Lung Cu Flag Tower, and among others. As planned, the Cambodian mission will visit and exchange experience with Vietnam’s Division 2 from June 29 to July 1. GPS collars to be used on wild elephants in Dak Lak
GPS collars will be fitted to 28 wild elephants in the Yok Don National Park in the Central Highlands province of Dak Lak, a workshop heard on June 29. The workshop was held by the World Wide Fund for Nature Vietnam and the provincial Department of Agriculture and Rural Development in the city of Buon Ma Thuot to consult relevant parties on the project. Experts said the collars will allow rangers from the provincial centre for elephant conservation, animal rescue and forest protection and the Yok Don National Park to track the location of the elephants and predict their movements in an attempt to prevent conflicts with humans. It is the first time GPS collars for elephants have been used in Vietnam, they said, adding that it is critical for the project to receive help from experienced foreign experts as well as technical and financial support from the World Wide Fund for Nature and Animals Asia Foundation. The competition, part of the Taste of Australia event, was organised by the Australian Trade and Investment Commission (Austrade) and supported by Vietnam’s Graduates from Australia Club (VGAC). It had two rounds – an online one held from May 12-June 4; and a final round held on June 25 in Ho Chi Minh City. All contestants registered for the online round submitted video clips with two cups with two different patterns from four subjects - Heart, Tulip, Rosetta and Swan.
