(VOVworld)- Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc has called on Vietnam and the Philippines to tap their potential for trade and investment ties to match with the strategic partnership. He told visiting Philippine President Rodrigo Roa Duterte during their meeting in Hanoi on September 29 that Vietnam will create the best possible conditions for Philippine investors in agriculture, food processing, services and tourism. The leader suggested the Philippine side facilitate Vietnamese investments infrastructure, oil and gas exploitation, mining and services in the country. He urged the two sides to continue their close cooperation in rice trade via the Governmental level Rice Trade Agreement. ASEAN, US sign trade and investment agreement
The Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) and the US signed in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, on August 25 the Trade and Investment Framework Arrangement (TIFA), which will serve as the platform for further deepening and broadening trade and investment relations between the two sides. Under the TIFA, ASEAN and the US will establish a formal dialogue to address issues between them, to coordinate on regional and multilateral trade issues, and to undertake a work plan that will support regional integration and help build on the already strong trade and investment ties between the two sides. The two sides agreed that at the initial stage, the work plan will include initiatives to support the development of the ASEAN Single Window, which will facilitate the flow of goods within ASEAN and between ASEAN and the United States. APEC Trade and Investment Committee Wraps Up at SOM III
The APEC Committee on Trade and Investment (CTI) closed its last discussions yesterday at the third Senior Officials Meeting (SOM III) by debating investment liberalization and the development of transparency in business and structural reform. The CTI meeting, the last of the year, was geared towards finalizing reports on its accomplishments to be announced at the APEC Ministerial Meeting in November. The meeting's work includes the development and delivery of reports on regional trade arrangements and free trade agreements, as well as a report on the final review of the Trade Facilitation Action Plan 2001-2006. This final review will propose a framework to deliver a further 5% reduction in transaction costs for regional trade. Viet Nam, U.S. Meet over Trade and Investment Framework Agreement
U.S. and Vietnamese senior officials on March 19 started their three-day meetings on the bilateral Trade and Investment Framework Agreement (TIFA) to further strengthen the two countries' economic relationship. Officials from the U.S. Trade Representative's Office, the U.S. Patent and Trade Office, and the U.S Embassy are meeting with their counterparts from the Vietnamese Government in Ha Noi to discuss intellectual property rights, WTO implementation, market access, and other issues of bilateral interest. Last December, the two sides sat in the first, ministerial-level TIFA Council meeting in Washington.
