Hanoi (VNA) - In the mornings before he opens his traditional house to visitors, Meritorious Artist To Thanh Son prepares tea to welcome his guests. When Bat Trang commune on the outskirts of Hanoi was officially recognised as a tourist site last month, his traditional house with its beautiful garden, old kiln and showroom of pottery products started receiving many tourists every day. In October 2019, the Hanoi People’s Committee and the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism (VNAT) brought smart tourism to Bat Trang, further highlighting it on the capital’s travel map. Smart tourism Bat Trang commune is located in Gia Lam district, 10km from the city centre. It comprises Bat Trang and Giang Cao villages. Vietnam’s wish to wrap up the Trans Pacific Partnership (TPP) trade deal although Canada at some point wanted to back out for reasons unknown was the big item. Hoa Binh (VNA) - Thousands of locals, visitors and Buddhism dignitaries and followers flocked to the opening ceremony of the Tien Pagoda Festival in Lac Thuy district in the northern province of Hoa Binh on February 8. This is the first festival held in the province on the occasion of the Lunar New Year (Tet) festival. The complex of Tien pagoda and caves was recognised as national tourism site in 2011. It is place for spiritual, cultural and eco-tourism. Deputy Director of the provincial Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism Luu Huy Linh said in accordance with the tourism development plan for Hoa Binh province in the 2020-2030 period, the Tien pagoda will serve spiritual and eco-tourism activities. The province is calling for more investment to improve the quality of tourism sites and develop tourism products, he noted. One really nice event I like over the festive season is the number of local people putting together charity goodies to take out of town to poorer folks in the surrounding area or doing it tough in the mountain regions. Usually this involves young university students and working kids – again another reminder that people do care and are willing to do something about it.
