(Photo: VNA) Phnom Penh (VNA) – Vietnam will host an annual meeting of the ASEAN Peacekeeping Centres Network (APCN) this September. The announcement was made by Deputy Defence Minister Sen. Lieut. Gen. Hoang Xuan Chien who is leading a Vietnamese delegation to the ASEAN Defence Senior Officials’ Meeting (ADSOM) and the ASEAN Defence Senior Officials’ Meeting Plus (ADSOM+) in Phnom Penh from May 17-18. Addressing the meeting, Chien said the organisation of ADSOM and ADSOM + enables participating countries to have a chance to share ideas on issues of mutual interest. LONDON -- The World Health Organization was holding an emergency meeting on Friday to discuss the recent outbreak of monkeypox, a viral infection more common to west and central Africa, after over 100 cases were confirmed or suspected in Europe. In what Germany described as the largest outbreak in Europe ever, cases have been reported in at least nine countries – Belgium, France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Portugal, Spain, Sweden and the United Kingdom - as well as the United States, Canada and Australia. Spain reported 24 new cases on Friday, mainly in the Madrid region where the regional government closed a sauna linked to the majority of infections. A hospital in Israel was treating a man in his 30s who is displaying symptoms consistent with the disease after recently arriving from Western Europe. Deputy Prime Minister Le Minh Khai proposed the establishment of a food innovation hub for Southeast Asia in Vietnam when addressing the “Averting a Global Food Crisis” session. Delivering the opening remarks, the Vietnamese Deputy PM addressed current food shortages and their severity in a number of countries. Speaking from Vietnam’s past experience as a country that had to import food but now is one of the important contributors to global food security, Khai proposed five recommendations to help alleviate food shortages around the world and sustain the global food system. Nguyen Thi Oanh is the current forerunner of Vietnamese athletics. In SEA Games 2017, she clinched the double gold medal in the 800-meter and 1,500-meter distances and helped Vietnam dominate these categories ever since. In SEA Games 2019, she successfully defended her gold medals in these two events, and scored another in the 3,000-meter hurdle race.
