A man from the central province of Quang Binh died from rabies three months after he was bitten by his family dog. The 62-year-old man from Tuyen Hoa District was attacked by the dog when holding it for the vaccination, injuring his left arm, said Doctor Cao Thi Phuong, director of the district’s health centre. However, until August 1, he felt tired and scared of light, so he was taken to Vietnam-Cuba Dong Hoi Hospital. Doctors there decided to send him to Hue General Hospital in critical condition. Two storms forecast to hit Vietnam this month
In August alone, the total rainfall in Vietnam's northern region would be 10-20% higher than in previous years. Vietnam could face two tropical depressions or storms in August, according to the National Center for Hydrometeorological Forecasting (NCHMF). NCHMF deputy director Hoang Phuc Lam said the center was monitoring the possibility of weather disturbances that could evolve into tropical depressions or storms in the East Sea over the next five to seven days. Lam noted that under the influence of the tropical depression, the northern part of Vietnam will experience strong winds and rough seas, while heavy rains and strong winds are likely to occur in the coastal areas in the next few days. “Storms and tropical depressions are likely to hit in the northern part of the East Sea this month and increase in frequency in the following months,” the deputy director said. Man gets nine-month flight ban after not paying smoking fine
Duong Van Thanh, 23, flew on the VJ134 flight from Ho Chi Minh City to Hanoi on June 29. Despite being warned by a flight attendant that it was a non-smoking flight, he continued to smoke, media reports said. When the plane landed in Hanoi, airport security apprehended Thanh and handed him over to the Northern Airports Authority, which said he has to pay a fine for his offense. The fine amount has not been revealed. According to regulations, those caught smoking on a plane may be fined up to VND5 million ($213.76). After Thanh failed to pay the fine by the deadline, the authority slapped a nine-month flight ban from August 10, 2022 to May 9, 2023. This means that Thanh cannot use domestic or international carriers for domestic or international flights from Vietnam during the ban period. Vietnamese man receives 9-month flight ban for failure to pay smoking fine
A man from Hai Duong Province, northern Vietnam was given a nine-month flight ban after he failed to pay a fine for smoking on a plane in late June. The Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam (CAAV) imposed a nine-month flight ban on 23-year-old Duong Van Thanh from Nam Sach District, Hai Duong Province. The ban is effective from August 10, 2022 to May 9, 2023. Thanh previously boarded flight VJ 134 from Ho Chi Minh City to Hanoi on June 29. He smoked a cigarette on the airplane even though the flight attendant informed that smoking was not allowed on the flight. After the plane landed, the flight crew handed Thanh over to the airport security unit, which later transferred the case to the Northern Airports Authority. On June 30, the Northern Airports Authority imposed a fine upon the passenger for his violation. The index closed 2.1 points up after gaining 4.01 points Monday. Trading on the Ho Chi Minh Stock Exchange rose marginally to VND15.97 trillion ($682.8 million), marking the ninth straight session above the VND15-trillion threshold. The VN-30 basket, comprising the 30 largest capped stocks, saw 16 tickers gain. HPG of steelmaker Hoa Phat rose 2.1% to a two-month high. NVL of property developer Novaland gained 1.8% to the highest since April 14. It have risen 13% in nine recent sessions. Other gainers were VIC of Vietnam's biggest conglomerate Vingroup, up 1.1% and VJC of budget carrier Vietjet, up 1%. Thirteen tickers fell, led by VCB of Vietcombank with a 1.5% loss. Vietnam’s Co To Island to ban single-use plastic from next month
Authorities on Co To Island off Quang Ninh Province, northern Vietnam announced a pilot program to ban visitors from bringing plastic products onto the island starting September in an attempt to spur sustainable tourism. Speaking to Tuoi Tre (Youth) newspaper last week, Nguyen Viet Dung, chairman of the Co To District People’s Committee, said the trial to forbid visitors from bringing plastic bottles, plastic bags, and materials carrying a risk of environmental pollution will last for several months. Vietnam invite Singapore, India to Ho Chi Minh City for friendly tournament next month
Vietnam will host a friendly tournament at Thong Nhat Stadium in Ho Chi Minh City next month with Singapore and India as participants, the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) announced on Monday. As part of the preparation for the 2022 AFF Mitsubishi Electric Cup, a biennial football competition organized by the ASEAN Football Federation (AFF), the friendly tournament will have the three teams compete in a round-robin format. Vietnam will play Singapore on September 21 and India on September 27, while the two guest teams will meet on September 24. The HoSE, on August 2, announced that by the last trading session of July 2022, the VN-Index reached 1,206.33 points, up 0.73 percent compared to June but down by nearly 20 percent compared to the end of 2021. Market liquidity in July recorded an average trading value and volume of VND11.5 trillion and 492.9 million shares, respectively, down 20.84 percent in value and 10 percent in volume, respectively, compared to before. The total trading volume of shares exceeded 10.3 billion shares, with a trading value of nearly VND241.55 trillion, down 14.10 percent in volume and 24.4 percent in value, respectively, compared to June. By the end of July 2022, on the HoSE, there were 554 listed securities codes, including 402 stocks, two closed-end fund certificates, nine exchange-traded fund certificates, 137 covered warrants, and four bonds. Ho Chi Minh City credit growth reaches 13.5 percent in 9 months
Of the total, loans in Vietnamese dong accounted for 90.4 percent, equal to more than VND 1.5 quadrillion, up 13.2 percent against December last year. Loans in foreign currencies made up VND 160 billion, up 15.4 percent. Non-performing loans accounted for 4 per cent of the city’s total outstanding loans, down 0.04 percentage points against December last year.
