Recently, high-level officials from 21 member economies of Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation Forum (APEC) and the Experts Group on Illegal Logging and Associated Trade (EGILAT) of APEC have held a meeting in Jakarta, Indonesia. Chaired the meeting, Indonesia has urged the member economies to promote their commitment to environmental protection, including the protection of forest and marine ecosystems, to support sustainable economic growth since APEC accounts for 55% of the world's forest area. EGILAT also stated the importance of managing and protecting forest and marine ecosystems for the development of a sustainable and green APEC economy. Head of the National Assembly’s Committee on Foreign Affairs Nguyen Van Giau told a media conference in Hanoi on Wednesday that the Vietnamese National Assembly has proposed a draft APPF Hanoi Declaration- New vision for the Asia-Pacific Parliamentary Partnership. Mr. Giau said that if approved, the declaration will be an important result to mark APPF’s 25th founding anniversary. On July 4, the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI) will coordinate with the US Embassy in Vietnam to organise a talk on Asia - Pacific economic integration featuring presentations by US APEC Ambassador Kurt Tong. The talk which draws a lot of Vietnamese businesses pinpoints APEC, ASEAN, TPP and opportunities for Vietnamese businesses. Mr Kurt Tong is the US Senior Official for Asia - Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC), managing all aspects of US participation in APEC. He used to be the Director for Asian Economic Affairs at the National Security Council, and a Visiting Scholar at the Tokyo University Faculty of Economics, Japan. He has spent years working and studying in East Asia, including service at the US embassies in Manila, Tokyo, Beijing and Seoul. Most recently, he served as Director for Korean Affairs at the Department of State from 2008 to 2009.
