Authorities order demolition of building Authorities in Ha Noi's Ba Dinh District yesterday sent forces to demolish the 8B Le Truc building's illegally constructed floors after a report criticised slow demolition work from the building's developer. Dozens of workers using concrete demolition machines started to destroy the 19th floor of the building under the observation of representatives from administration, local construction inspectorate of Dien Bien Ward and the developer. Tran Manh Quan, Chairman of People's Committee of Dien Bien Ward where the building is located, said the demolition was undertaken after a decision by the Ba Dinh District People's Committee in early January 2016 to implement punishment for violations in the construction process. The ward asked the building's developer, Le Truc Garment Joint Stocks Company, to co-operate with demolition forces, said Quan. It also asked the developer to pay for all demolition costs, he added. VN, US step up scientific efforts (25-09-2009) HCM CITY— International co-operation in science and research is essential for economic growth and higher living standards, an official said at a US-Viet Nam conference on scientific co-operation held yesterday in HCM City. Phan Minh Tan, associate professor and director of the city's Science and Technology Department, said scientists must co-operate to find ways to commercialise research products and apply those results in practice to serve demand. Long-term relations The US Consul General in HCM City, Kenneth Fairfax, who also spoke, said: "I'm happy to see the growing use of technology in Viet Nam as well as the strong linkage between scientists and the US and Viet Nam." Wind power surges to new record
The Global Wind Energy Council released its Annual Market Update today, with a comprehensive snapshot of the global wind industry at the end of 2012, along with a 5-year forecast out to 2017. Although policy uncertainty in the main OECD markets is a cause for concern, strong markets in China, India and Brazil, as well as in new markets in Latin America, Africa and the rest of Asia will drive global growth during the period. "Wind power may be variable, but the greatest threat to the continued stable growth of the industry is the variability and unpredictability of the politicians who set the frameworks for the energy sector", said Steve Sawyer, GWEC Secretary General.
