The Ministry of Education and Training has recommended that degree certificates should no longer show students' ranks. Universities now have five ranks: excellent, very good, good, average, and acceptable. Truong Nguyen Thanh, vice principal of Ho Chi Minh City's private Van Lang University, said not indicating the level of distinction is now a global trend. Most schools in the U.S. do not include them in the degree certificate but attach the school records along with it. A few years after graduation, not many students would worry about the rank they had got, only the value they bring to their current employer, he said. They had failed to apply a code of conduct to prevent corruption in their businesses, participants said at a forum held yesterday in Hà Nội. “One of the reasons is the law is new,” one representative said. Corruption in the private sector was on the rise, posing a threat to society and the economy, he said. Pianist Dang Thai Son finds new home at Oberlin
His teaching career spans 30 years, including positions at the Kunitachi College of Music in Tokyo, Taipei National Normal University, Université de Montréal and, last but not least, his alma mater, the Vietnam National Academy of Music in Hanoi. In each of these posts, Dang Thai Son chose to be a guest professor. Pianist Dang Thai Son has confirmed that he will join the piano faculty at Oberlin Conservatory in Ohio, United States this fall “I have only agreed to be a ‘guest’ professor, which speaks volumes about my love for independence," he told the Oberlin College and Conservatory website.
