Deputy head of the Vietnam Meteorological and Hydrological Administration (VNMHA) Hoang Duc Cuong said that the workshop, jointly held by the VNMHA and the Asian Disaster Preparedness Center (ADPC) in response to the World Meteorological Day (March 23), will provide international experiences on forecasting and warning based on practical impacts in the world and Vietnam, contributing to forming processes and measures to effectively forecast disaster impacts in Vietnam at present and in future. A wild elephant has ravaged fruit trees in the southern province of Binh Phuoc’s Dong Phu District. According to the forest management board in Dong Phu District, on March 19, the elephant appeared near the forest in Tan Loi Commune. A tree ruined by the elephant The animal travelled through a residential area which is home to around 61 households in Thach Mang Village, destroying 12 banana trees, one jackfruit tree and three papaw trees. It also broke into a local house, eating rice and salt. Local authorities have instructed locals to take measures to ensure safety in case the elephant returns.
