Two groups of travel companies from Cambodia and Thailand started Thursday a study trip in the Vietnamese southern province of Kien Giang to prepare for the launch of a new package through three countries by sea travel. The Thai delegation includes tour organizers from Trat, Chanthaburi, Chonburi, and Rayong, while travel firms from Kep, KoKong, Sihanouk, and KamPot are in the Cambodian group. They will spend three days visiting the provincial town of Ha Tien, the capital city of Rach Gia and the province's Phu Quoc Island to inspect the service and accommodation facilities there. With help from Vietnamese travel companies, the foreign tour organizers will also study the tourist attractions on Phu Quoc Island, a famed resort island, nearly 400km west of Ho Chi Minh City. Former U.S. president Carter to help build houses in Vietnam By Thuy Nguyen in HCMC Former U.S. president Jimmy Carter and his wife Rosalynn will visit rural areas in Vietnam, China, Thailand, Laos and Cambodia to join thousands of volunteers in building houses for poor people along the Mekong River in November 2009. The trip is also aimed to bring attention to the need for decent and affordable housing in these countries, said Esther Arthur, marketing manager of international NGO Habitat for Humanity in Vietnam. This week-long building project is the 26th annual “Jimmy and Rosalynn Carter Work Project” of Habitat for Humanity International and it will secure homes in partnership with an estimated of 300 families.
