Representatives from teams competing in the final round of VietChallenge 2019 (Photo: VNA) New York (VNA) – Medlink – the supplier of a platform for direct connectivity among drug companies and pharmacies has won the first prize of VietChallenge 2019, an annual startup competition for Vietnamese entrepreneurs from all over the world. Medlink surpassed eight other competitors in the final round of the contest, which was held on September 7 at Massachusetts Institute of Technology by the Association of Vietnamese Students and Professionals in the US. The second prize came to VVN AI, a supplier of artificial intelligence to recognise images and texts, which is applied in the transaction process at shops and banks, helping save time and enhance convenience and security. Vietnam wants to boost enterprises by creating innovative facilities such as the NIC Soon after Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc agreed to speed up the development of the National Innovation Centre (NIC), the Ministry of Planning and Investment has called for investment at an international level through visits to developed countries like Singapore and Germany. At the first seminar in Singapore to introduce the NIC to the international market, Minister of Planning and Investment Nguyen Chi Dung received questions about policies for investing in the centre. According to Minister Dung, innovative entrepreneurs operating in the centre will pay just 50 per cent of personal income tax. HSG exports steel sheets to US Steel producer Hoa Sen Group reported that it shipped 17,000 tonnes of steel sheets to the US worth US$14 million on Thursday. The company has been exporting to the US since 2014 and shipments have been increasing recently. A company spokesperson said the shipment proves the company’s capacity and global competitiveness since exports to the US and EU have been hit by the trade barriers they have imposed. Hoa Sen has exported to over 75 nations and territories. In 2017-18, it produced nearly 1.9 million tonnes of steel worth over VND34.4 trillion ($1.5 billion), up 13 per cent in volume and 32 per cent in value over the previous year. Revenues from domestic sales were worth over VND22 trillion ($964 million), up 34 per cent, and exports fetched $538 million, up 27 per cent. Its profit after tax was VND410 billion ($18 million).
