(Photo: VNA) Quang Ngai (VNA) – The central coastal province of Quang Ngai has mobilised its entire political system in the fight against the illegal, unreported and unregulated (IUU) fishing, and reaped significant results in this regard. As of September 2023, the locality counted 4,292 fishing vessels, of them 3,127 measuring 15 metres and above in length, along with about 38,000 labourers working at sea, according to Director of the provincial Department of Agriculture and Rural Development Ho Trong Phuong. The provincial People’s Committee established a steering committee on IUU fishing prevention in 2019, and issued a plan on the implementation of relevant tasks and solutions for the 2023-2025 period. Tropical depression causes heavy rains, flooding in central Vietnam
Impacts from the depression have led to downpours with rainfall measuring 197 mm in Da Nang, 171 mm in Hoi An of Quang Nam, and 283 mm in Thua Thien Hue's Huong Phu District from midnight to 1 p.m. on Monday, according to the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting. The north-central and mid-central regions received an average rainfall of 50-80 mm during the period. Many streets in Da Nang, Thua Thien Hue and Quang Nam were flooded by 0-.3 - 0.7 meters as a result, paralyzing traffic. Floods isolate villages in central Vietnam
Quang Binh, home to world's largest cave Son Doong, experienced heavy rains triggered by a tropical depression Monday night through Tuesday morning. Routes connecting villages and communes in Minh Hoa, Tuyen Hoa and Quang Ninh districts were flooded by water levels 1-2 meters deep. Rockslides also caused traffic jams on National Highways 15 and 9B. The Quang Binh Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention, Search and Rescue said thousands of families in 18 villages had been isolated by the floods, and people were forced to use boats to travel around. "On the night of September 25, authorities cooperated with border guards to help dozens of families in flooded areas relocate with their belongings and move to shelters," said a representative from Dan Hoa Commune in Minh Hoa District. As many as 200 outstanding photos selected from the Vietnam Heritage Photo Awards 2023 are displayed in Hanoi. The week-long exhibition of the winning photos of the Journey of Heritage began on September 22 at the Hanoi Exhibition House, 93 Dinh Tien Hoang Street, Hoan Kiem District. The winning photo entitled "Khu Gia Gia Festival of Ha Nhi Minority" by Nguyen Vu Hau The Heritage Special Award goes to photographer Ngo Quang Phuc for the photo collection "The Ndam Padhi Bani Festival in Ninh Thuan". Tropical depression brings downpours to central, southern Vietnam
Moderate to heavy rains triggered by a tropical depression in the East Vietnam Sea are dampening the central, Central Highlands, and southern regions until Wednesday, according to the national weather center. The national steering committee for natural disaster prevention and control on Sunday night issued a telegram asking the relevant ministries and provincial departments in these regions to proactively respond to downpours and the tropical depression. The tropical depression was spotted around 170 kilometers south of Vietnam's Hoang Sa (Paracel) archipelago at 7:00 pm on Sunday, packing strong winds at 39-49 kilometers per hour. The tropical depression is forecast to move westward at 10-15 kilometers per hour in the next 24 hours. Troops actively support flood-hit victims
In Nghe An province, some districts of Quy Chau, Thanh Chuong, Con Cuong, Do Luong, Quy Hop and Ky Son suffered from heavy rains and flooding. Especially in Quy Chau district’s Tan Lac town, over 250 houses were flooded, causing severe damages to assets and properties. Hence, the Quy Chau district Military Command have sent 30 servicemen and vehicles to evacuate local people and their properties. Local militiamen are present at heavily-flooded roads to warn residents. According to Colonel Vuong Dinh Hanh, Political Commissar of the Ky Son district Military Command, his troops are supporting local people to move elderly, children and properties to higher places in Ta Ca commune, Ky Son district.
