Vietnam affirms consistent stance of settling disputes by peaceful means at ADSOM+

Vietnamese Deputy Defense Minister Senior Lieutenant General Hoang Xuan Chien affirmed that while delivering a speech at the ASEAN Defense Senior Officials’ Meeting Plus (ADSOM+) in Phnom Penh on May 18. The Vietnamese deputy defense minister also emphasized that the security and safety of navigation and aviation in the East Sea (or South China Sea) is extremely important for countries in the region and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN). Therefore, it is essential to observe the Declaration of the Conduct of Parties in the East Sea (DOC) and accelerate the early signing of a practical and effective Code of Conduct in the East Sea (COC). It took place in the context of the Vietnam - Laos Year of Solidarity and Friendship 2022, which marks the 60th founding anniversary of diplomatic relations and the 45th anniversary of the signing of the Vietnam - Laos Treaty of Amity and Cooperation. Additional 1,716 Covid-19 infections confirmed on Thursday

An additional 1,716 new Covid-19 infections were confirmed on Thursday, raising the national tally to over 10.70 million, according to the Ministry of Health. According to the ministry's report, most of the new patients are locally-transmitted cases confirmed in 48 out of 63 localities in the country with some localities seeing the highest numbers including Hanoi (381), Nghe An (126), Phu Tho (111) and Vinh Phuc (83). The northern province of Bac Giang today announced 1,012 cases to the national tally after reviewing counts in districts and towns. As of Thursday evening, the number of Covid-19 patients in Vietnam has increased to over 10.70 million. The country now stands 12th among 227 countries and territories worldwide in the number of infections. On May 19, an additional 9,587 more patients recovered from the disease, raising the number of recoveries in the country to over 9.38 million.
