Digiworld cuts profit target by nearly half

March 31, 2023 by e.vnexpress.net

In a report sent to shareholders ahead of the upcoming annual general meeting, the company said the revenue target is lower by 9% at VND20,000 billion. It had announced late February that the profit target was VND787 billion ($33.5 million). The report said the business plan for 2023 has been amended due to the "decline in the economy as well as consumer demand." It would improve its distribution channels and facilities and develop new product categories to improve market share, revenues and profits. A declining business outlook after two years of high growth is also the overall situation in the retail industry this year. Electronics store chain FPT Retail plans to seek shareholder approval to reduce its pre-tax profit by more than half to VND240 billion. In the last two years they had been VND554 billion (2021) and VND485 billion (2022). It cited difficulties faced by its consumer electronics chain FPT Shop, saying it could be more severely affected by adverse factors … [Read more...] about Digiworld cuts profit target by nearly half

Ho Chi Minh City reports modest economic growth in Q1

March 30, 2023 by tuoitrenews.vn

Ho Chi Minh City’s gross regional domestic product (GRDP) in the first quarter expanded a mere 0.7 percent year on year. The Ho Chi Minh city Institute for Development Studies (HIDS) on Wednesday cited statistics from the General Statistics Office of Vietnam as showing that the metropolis’ GRDP reached some VND360 trillion (US$15.3 billion) this quarter, inching up from the nearly VND247 trillion ($10.5 billion) in the same quarter of last year. The growth rate was higher than the 0.29 percent in the first quarter of 2022. However, experts were not surprised at the modest growth, saying that it had aligned with previously released forecasts. They also noted that growth in the second quarter of the year could be even lower. According to the HIDS, the city’s agro-forestry-fishery sector improved 2.06 percent, the service sector edged up 2.07 percent, and the industry and construction sector fell 3.6 percent, according to Thoi Bao Tai Chinh Viet Nam (Vietnam Financial Times). … [Read more...] about Ho Chi Minh City reports modest economic growth in Q1

March 31, 2023 by tuoitrenews.vn

As Eita Sato and Aoi Hoshi walked towards their junior high school graduation ceremony, their footsteps echoed in polished halls once crowded and noisy with students. The two were the only graduates of Yumoto Junior High in a mountainous part of northern Japan - and the last. The 76-year-old school will shut its doors for good when the school year ends on Friday. “We heard rumours about the school closure in our second year, but I didn’t imagine it would actually happen. I was shocked,” Eita, who like Aoi is 15, said. Eita, Aoi and their teachers attend a special celebratory class a few days before graduation and the school’s closing ceremony, in Ten-ei Village, Fukushima Prefecture, Japan, March 9, 2023. Photo: Reuters As Japan’s birthrate plunges faster than expected, school closures have picked up pace especially in rural areas like Ten-ei, a mountainous skiing and hotspring area in Fukushima prefecture, dealing a further blow to regions already struggling … [Read more...] about Last students graduate: School closures spread in ageing Japan

March 30, 2023 by en.qdnd.vn

Vietnam’s engagement in U.N. resolution that urges the International Court of Justice (ICJ) to outline nations' legal obligations related to curbing climate change disasters and their impacts on vulnerable communities proves the country’s point of view, the ambassador said in a recent interview to the Vietnam News Agency right after the resolution was adopted on March 29. The resolution, co-sponsored by 132 countries, calls on the ICJ to lay out nations' obligations for protecting Earth's climate, and the legal consequences they face if they don't. The court's opinion would be non-binding. Giang described the adoption of the resolution as particularly significant. First, it shows the enormous consequences of climate change and the urgency to strengthen climate change response. Second, the urgency has become so great that it has attracted widespread international attention. Third, the adoption of the resolution by consensus shows the advantages of the multilateral approach, … [Read more...] about Vietnam emphasizes global multilateral approaches to solving climate change issues
