Recognising the achievements of Vietnam’s socioeconomic development in the second quarter, in late July, the Asian Development Bank (ADB) retained outlooks of GDP growth at 6.5 per cent in 2022 and 6.7 per cent in 2023, while lowering the forecast of Asia-Pacific as a whole in 2022 to 4.6 per cent. “With sustainable recovery, Vietnam is rising as a spotlight of the region,” said Andrew Jeffries, the ADB’s country director at last week’s meeting with the prime minister along with Vietnamese governmental agencies. Vietnam Para Games team returns home with 183 medals
The Vietnamese delegation to the 2022 Southeast Asian Para Games (ASEAN Para Games) in Indonesia arrived home on Sunday after claiming 183 medals, including 65 golds, 62 silvers, and 56 bronzes, ranking third on the medal table at the biennial multi-sport event, which concluded a day before. It is the highest number of medals Vietnam has achieved since it hosted the Games in 2003. The Vietnamese team initially set a target to win 35-40 gold medals at the regional Games. Vietnam broke 16 records this year, 14 of which were in swimming. Swimmer Vi Thi Hang set three new records, the highest among Vietnamese athletes, in the women’s 50-meter freestyle, 100-meter breaststroke, and 100-meter freestyle categories. The unexpectedly strong U.S. jobs data on Friday have raised the stakes for the July U.S. consumer prices report due on Wednesday, especially for the Fed's policy outlook. Vietnamese female swimmer breaks record at 2022 ASEAN Para Games
Vietnamese swimmer Trinh Thi Bich Nhu won a gold medal in the women’s 50-meter butterfly swim event at the 2022 Southeast Asian Para Games (ASEAN Para Games), taking place in Indonesia, with a record-breaking result on Thursday morning. Nhu’s achievement was 42.60 seconds, surpassing the Games’ record of 1:00.18 held by Malaysian swimmer Koh Lee Peng. Despite suffering leg paralysis since the age of three, Nhu developed a passion for swimming, with her idol being Michael Phelps of the U.S., who is the most successful and most decorated Olympian of all time. At the age of 37, Nhu has participated in the Paralympics, won gold medals at the 2015 World Championships, and earned many medals at continental tournaments.
