Vietjet CEO is welcomed by many passengers at the airport. New-age carrier Vietjet’s president &CEO Nguyen Thi Phuong Thao late January 30 arrived at Tan Son Nhat International Airport to check the airline’s operations in the days before the Lunar New Year. Accompanying Thao were two vice presidents To Viet Thang and Nguyen Duc Thinh. The check-up was carried out after Dinh Viet Thang, Director of Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam (CAAV), did the same thing at the airport and wished Vietjet staff and employees a happy new lunar year. At Tan Son Nhat international airport (Source: VNA) Ho Chi Minh City (VNA) – Domestic airlines plan to increase the frequency of flights by 8-10 percent during the upcoming Tet (Lunar New Year) holiday from January 20 to February 19 compared to the same period last year, according to a representative from the Ho Chi Minh City-based Tan Son Nhat International Airport. Accordingly, up to 806-820 flights per day have been planned for the upcoming holidays, up 70 flights from last year’s period. There will be 900 flights departing from and landing in Tan Son Nhat airport on February 2 and about 890 flights on February 10. Tan Son Nhat International Airport said it expects to handle 134,200 passengers a day between January 20 and February 19, some 17,500 more than the last Tet season early this year. The two busiest days, February 2 and 10, will see respectively 900 and 890 planes flying into and out of the airport. February 2 would in fact see the highest number of flights ever in its history, according to the airport, which serves around 650 flights on a normal day. Domestic airlines are set to increase the number of flights during the festival to meet the surging demand. Vietnam Airlines and budget carriers Vietjet and Jetstar Pacific plan to fly 2,000, 1,000 and 1,000 additional flights more from and to the airport during the period. The airport customs force found three handguns, two daggers and a pair of handcuffs hidden in the luggage of the passenger, who hails from the southern province of Long An. The 48-year-old man arrived on flight NH833 from the US to Vietnam via Tokyo (Japan). If the proposal of Airports Corporation of Vietnam (ACV) to build the third terminal for Tan Son Nhat International Airport is approved, the construction of the airport will be started in the third quarter of 2020. ACV awaits the prime minister's approval for the third terminal of Tan Son Nhat International Airport ACV has submitted a document to the Ministry of Transport (MoT) proposing the prime minister to approve the investment planning for Tan Son Nhat’s third terminal. Accordingly, the third terminal, which covers an area of 100,000 square metres, will handle 20 million passengers per year. The project will have a total investment capital of VND11.65 trillion ($506.5 million), invested by ACV and will be recouped within 23 years.
