Vietnam’s Binh Duong launches int’l multimodal freight train to China
The People’s Committee of Binh Duong Province in southern Vietnam and the Vietnam Railways on Wednesday debuted an international multimodal train transporting cargo from Song Than Station to China. The train with 19 carriages carried nearly 500 metric tons of tapioca starch. The train departed from Song Than Station the same day, and is set to arrive in Putian, Zhengzhou in China’s Henan on October 5. Attending the inauguration ceremony, Le Manh Ha, CEO at T&T Trade and Service Company, said that the demand for freight transport to China is high. Firms can now conduct export procedures at Song Than Station, instead of any border station. Train carrying exports to China from southern Binh Duong province debuts
The train consists of 19 carriages carrying about 500 tonnes of tapioca starch. It departed from Song Than station and is scheduled to arrive in Putian, Zhengzhou in the Chinese province of Henan on October 5. It marked the first time the station has been involved in the local export-import activities. Speaking at the event, Director of Binh Duong provincial Customs Department Nguyen Tran Hieu said Binh Duong has risen to the third place nationwide in terms of exports-imports, about 40% of which has been with China, mostly via waterway and partly by road. Last year, Song Than station handled over 1.6 million tonnes of goods, mostly electronic equipment, automobiles, food, raw materials for production, and products manufactured for industrial zones in Binh Duong, Dong Nai and Ho Chi Minh City. Hanoi households, businesses rush to install escape ladders outside buildings
Many households and businesses in Hanoi have raced to equip escape ladders outside their high-rise buildings following a fatal apartment block inferno that killed 56 people in the capital earlier this month. These escape ladders come in all types and sizes, but most of them are made from metal. The owners of buildings with enough spaces have equipped them with spiral ladders, while vertical ladders have been installed outside some others. Some ladders have even encroached on sidewallk areas. Vietnam attracted close to US$20.21 billion in foreign investment in the year to September 20, up 7.7 percent year on year, according to the Foreign Investment Agency under the Ministry of Planning and Investment. In particular, foreign investors registered to inject over $10.23 billion into nearly 2,300 new projects in the nine-month period, surging 66.3 and 43.6 percent, respectively. The period also saw 934 operational foreign direct investment projects revise up their capital by a total of over $5.15 billion, up 21.5 percent in the number of projects but down 37.3 percent in the additional capital. Foreign investors also conducted around 2,500 transactions to contribute funds to and acquire shares in local firms with total capital of $4.82 billion, edging down five percent in the number of transactions but soaring 47 percent in value.
