Vietnam will remove the pre-entry COVID-19 test requirements for all foreign arrivals starting Sunday, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh has directed. The direction, effective at 0:00 on May 15, comes as the numbers of COVID-19 infections and deaths drop both in Vietnam and around the world. In a dispatch issued on Friday, the PM cited the World Health Organization as announcing that the COVID-19 pandemic has tended to reduce in both patient numbers and fatalities on a global scale and that basic vaccines are still effective against variants of the SARS-CoV-2 virus. In such context, many countries have been taking steps to ease COVID-19 restrictions, including removal of pre-entry testing, the document said. COVID-19 testing conducted for people in Bac Giang province (Photo: VNA) Hanoi (VNA) – Vietnam recorded 58 new cases of COVID-19 over the past six hours to 6 p.m on May 21, including one imported case who had been quarantined upon their arrival, the Ministry of Health said. Among the 57 domestically-transmitted cases, 39 were found in Bac Giang province, 13 in the neighbouring province of Bac Ninh, two in Da Nang, one in in Lang Son, and two in Tan Trieu facility of the Vietnam National Cancer Hospital. The latest cases have brought the national count of domestic infections to 3,462, with 1,892 detected since the new wave of the pandemic started in the country on April 27. The recoveries now stand at 2,689, while the number of fatalities is 41. Among the patients under treatment, 63 have tested negative for the coronavirus SARS-CoV-2 once, 34 twice, and 23 thrice. Unvaccinated tourists not exempted from quarantine upon arrival in Cambodia

AKP quoted Prime Minister Hun Sen as saying at a meeting on May 17 with the Samdech Techo Young Volunteer Doctors Association (TYDA) that Cambodia welcomes all visitors, but people who have not been vaccinated against COVID-19 must still be quarantined for seven days. The PM emphasised that Cambodia has overcome the epidemic waves caused by variants of the SARS-CoV-2 virus such as Alpha, Delta and Omicron, but has not yet conquered COVID-19. PM receives President of Paris-based Pasteur Institute
Receiving Professor Stewart Cole, President of the Pasteur Institute in Paris, in Hanoi on May 26, PM Chinh affirmed that health care is a traditional cooperation field and a bright spot in the strategic partnership between Vietnam and France, affirming that Vietnam attaches great importance to medical collaboration with France in general and the Pasteur Institute in particular, thus deepening bilateral ties and making them more effective and practical. He thanked France for supporting Vietnam in training personnel for the medical sector, including the Francophone residency program for doctors which has received more than 3,000 doctors from Vietnam for practice at French hospitals, and providing vaccines and medical equipment for Vietnam to fight COVID-19.
